Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.0

GPA, above 7 of the 21 other web hosts we grade

InterServer is a host founded in 1999 that sells a single standard web hosting plan, cloud VPS built from slices, dedicated servers and colocation. The shared plan runs on DirectAdmin with no set storage or transfer cap, the in-house InterShield security system and the SitePad website builder. VPS slices each add a core, 2 GB of memory and 40 GB of SSD.

To get you started, here are 8 things to know about InterServer, taken from its own pages and our grades.

It runs on DirectAdmin with SitePad for building, but there's still a domain, a site and email to set up.
From our grade for ease of use

The report card

Best for one simple cheap plan with no storage cap

InterServer keeps it simple: one shared plan with no set storage or transfer cap, renewing at a flat $7 a month. Two years cost $60 on the first term, which is about as cheap as it gets here. Backups are weekly rather than daily, though, and a domain costs $7.99 on top.

ToolGPA report cardInterServerGraded Oct 17, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyAThe 24-month first term is $60, so two years cost $60, about $2.50 a month, well under the $5.97 an A needs. It renews at $7 a month, $84 a year, which is still cheap. Students can get the first year free after approval.
Free plan and trialFNothing free for most people: no free plan and no trial. Students with a qualifying school email can get first-year credits after approval.
FeaturesCUnmetered storage and email, InterShield security with hacked-site cleanup, LSCache, a free Cloudflare CDN, SitePad and 461 one-click scripts. The gaps the listing names: weekly backups, not daily, and a domain costs $7.99.
Ease of useCNo app store rating to go on. It runs on DirectAdmin with SitePad for building, but there's still a domain, a site and email to set up.
Platforms and integrationsCA web panel only. The named integrations are DirectAdmin, Cloudflare, SitePad, LiteSpeed Cache and phpMyAdmin, with no API on record.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.0

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who InterServer is for

  • Great if you want one cheap plan without counting gigabytes
  • Handy when you want a self-managed VPS you can grow $3 at a time
  • Good for students building portfolio or class sites

Who it is not for

  • Tight if you need daily backups, as the shared plan keeps weekly ones
  • Skip it if you want a free domain, since it's $7.99 to register or transfer
  • Too light for file or backup storage, which the shared plan isn't meant for

Good to know

Good for

  • Small sites and blogs that want one simple plan with unmetered storage
  • Developers who want a cheap self-managed VPS they can grow a slice at a time
  • Students building portfolio or class sites

Worth knowing

  • VPS plans under 8 slices are self-managed; managed support starts at 8 slices, $24 a month.
  • The shared plan is meant for websites and email, not for file or backup storage or reselling hosting.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace InterServer you would be making an engine that recognises new malware as it appears. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It costs $36 a year.

What you could not

  • An engine that recognises new malware as it appears.
  • A builder that other people can use without writing code.
  • It plugs into other products, WordPress, DirectAdmin and Cloudflare among them.

What this rests on. InterServer’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
