Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.0

GPA, above 3 of the 16 other VPNs we grade

IVPN is a VPN run by IVPN Limited of Gibraltar since 2009, with open-source apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android. Accounts are created without an email address and can be paid in cash or cryptocurrency. The Plus and Pro Suite tiers add the company's Mailx email aliases, modDNS filtering and, on Pro Suite, the Portmaster Pro app firewall.

To get you started, here are 8 things to know about IVPN, taken from its own pages and our grades.

You generate an account ID instead of signing up with an email, then install the app and connect, with nothing to configure first.
From our grade for ease of use
  1. 1

Best for a private VPN you can try for a week

IVPN is for people who'd rather their VPN knew nothing about them: no email at sign-up, cash or Monero accepted, and open-source apps.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $5 a month when paid by the year

As its pricing page puts it: $60 per year (Standard), also sold at $6 a month or $2 a week.

  3. 3

    It runs on 5 platforms

macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android.

  4. 4

    Signup without an email address

An account is a generated ID with no email required, and IVPN accepts card, PayPal, Bitcoin, Lightning, Monero and cash.

  5. 5

    WireGuard, OpenVPN and IPSec

Quantum-resistant WireGuard is on by default in the apps, with automatic key and IP rotation on a schedule you set.

  6. 6

    Multi-hop routes

Sends traffic through two servers in separate jurisdictions. Included on every tier since the May 2026 plan changes.

  7. 7

    A 2.0 GPA, above 3 of 16

That is against the other VPNs we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  8. 8

    Keep it

To replace IVPN you would be making servers in dozens of countries, kept fast and private. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for a private VPN you can try for a week

IVPN is for people who'd rather their VPN knew nothing about them: no email at sign-up, cash or Monero accepted, and open-source apps. Standard is $60 a year on 5 devices, and it renews at that same price. There's no free plan or trial, though, just a $2 week, and no port forwarding.

ToolGPA report cardIVPNGraded Oct 17, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCStandard is $60 a year and renews at that, so two years cost $120, about $5 a month, right in the middle of what VPNs charge. Monthly is $6, and Plus and Pro Suite are $80 and $100 a year for the email aliases, DNS filtering and app firewall.
Free plan and trialFNothing free: no free plan and no trial. IVPN points you to a $2 one-week plan for trying it, and the 30-day refund is once per customer. Neither of those is a trial.
FeaturesCMulti-hop, the AntiTracker blocker, WireGuard with key rotation, and V2Ray and obfs4 for networks that block VPNs. But the listing names the gaps: no port forwarding, no streaming promises, 5 devices on Standard and servers in 41 countries.
Ease of useBNo App Store rating on record. You generate an account ID instead of signing up with an email, then install the app and connect, with nothing to configure first.
Platforms and integrationsBMac, Windows, Linux, iPhone and Android, all with open-source apps. There's no integration list or API on record, so it stops at B.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.0

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who IVPN is for

  • Great if you want to sign up without an email and pay in cash or crypto
  • Handy when you want a week's go for $2 before you commit to a year
  • Good for small teams who want per-seat billing, at $90 a user a year for up to 20 seats

Who it is not for

  • Not for you if you want to try it free first, as there's no free plan or trial
  • Skip it if you torrent and need port forwarding, which IVPN doesn't offer
  • Tight if you have more than 5 devices, unless you pay $100 a year for Pro Suite

Good to know

Good for

  • People who want to pay for a VPN without giving an email or card
  • Buyers who want open-source apps and yearly third-party audits
  • Small teams that want per-seat VPN billing without dedicated servers

Worth knowing

  • Servers are in 58 locations across 41 countries, and IVPN states it offers no port forwarding and no streaming guarantees.
  • Portmaster Pro, the main Pro Suite extra, runs only on Windows and Linux.
  • Teams has no dedicated servers or IPs and is not a way into a company network, per IVPN's teams page.

Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own

3/16

Other VPNs it is graded above

IVPN's GPA of 2.0 is higher than 3 of the 16 other VPNs we grade.

It stands best on ease of use (B, above 6 of 16) and worst on free plan and trial (F, above 0).

Its paid plans start at $5 a month when paid by the year, against a middle price of $5 for the category: 8 of the 15 others that charge start lower.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace IVPN you would be making servers in dozens of countries, kept fast and private. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 13 of the 16 other VPNs grade higher. It costs $60 a year. IVPN is open source, so there is a third way: take its code and run it yourself.

What you could make

  • Ad and tracker blocking: an app builder makes this well.

What you could not

  • Servers in dozens of countries, kept fast and private.
  • Apps for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.

What this rests on. IVPN’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
