Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

1.8

GPA, above 0 of the 12 other therapy and clinic software we grade

Jane is clinic management software for private health and wellness practices, from a single practitioner to clinics with many. It combines a branded online booking site, charting with intake forms and treatment plans, telehealth, payments and invoicing, with insurance billing as an add-on. Pricing is per bookable practitioner, and admin staff are free.

To get you started, here are 8 things to know about Jane, taken from its own pages and our grades.

Practitioners, services, rooms and charting templates all take setting up, and without a trial the first look is a demo.

The report card

Best for clinics with several practitioners and shared rooms

Jane runs booking, charting, telehealth and payments for a clinic, and admin staff cost nothing. There's no free trial, though, the $59 Balance plan stops at 20 appointments a month, and insurance billing is an add-on with a clearinghouse account you pay for on top.

SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyDBalance is $59 a month but stops at 20 appointments, so a real caseload needs Practice at $79 plus $35 per extra full-time practitioner. That's about double this category's middle of $39, before insurance billing at $20 a month.
Free plan and trialFNo free plan and no free trial. Jane offers a demo account to look around instead, so the first month on your own clients is a paid one.
FeaturesBBranded booking for visits, groups and classes, charting with 10,000+ templates, intake forms, outcome measures, treatment plans, telehealth, payments and a client app. Insurance claims are an add-on rather than missing.
Ease of useCNo App Store rating on record. Practitioners, services, rooms and charting templates all take setting up, and without a trial the first look is a demo.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb for the clinic, a Jane for Clients app for patients, and links to Claim.MD, Fullscript, Physitrack, Wibbi, Google Calendar and others. No app for staff is on record, and no desktop app.
Grade point averageWeak, out of 4.01.8

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

  • Tight if you're solo on Balance: one practitioner and 20 appointments or class bookings a month
  • Pricey if you bill insurance: $20 a month plus $5 per extra full-timer, with Claim.MD paid for separately
  • Watch out: unlimited AI Scribe and group telehealth are $15 a month per practitioner each, and cards cost 2.85% + 25¢ online

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Jane you would be making video sessions that meet health privacy rules. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 12 of the 12 other therapy and clinic software grade higher. It costs $708 a year.

What you could make

  • Appointment booking, clinical notes and class booking: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Video sessions that meet health privacy rules.
  • Insurance claims sent to payers through a clearinghouse.
  • It plugs into other products, Claim.MD, Fullscript and Physitrack among them.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Jane’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
