Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.0

GPA, above 2 of the 123 other to-do list apps we grade

Memento is a reminders app for Apple devices that works on the same database as Apple's Reminders, so existing lists appear as soon as it is opened and changes show up in both apps. It adds its own interface: grid or list layouts, reminders grouped by time period, time and location alerts, and notifications with actions to complete, snooze or reschedule. It is sold as a single $5.99 purchase on the App Store.

To get you started, here are 8 things to know about Memento, taken from its own pages and our grades.

  1. 1

Best for a different face on Apple Reminders

It's Apple only, it leans on Background App Refresh to notice new reminders, and two lists with the same name can get reordered.

  2. 2

    What it costs

Paid plans start at $5.99 one-time purchase.

  3. 3

    It runs on 2 platforms

    iOS and macOS.

  4. 4

    Built on Apple Reminders

Memento reads and writes the same database as Apple's Reminders, so there is nothing to migrate and reminders sync through iCloud and appear in both apps.

  5. 5

    Time and location alerts

A reminder can alert at a set time, on arriving at or leaving a place, or both together.

  6. 6

    Notifications with actions

Notifications offer quick actions to complete, snooze or reschedule a reminder without opening the app, including on Apple Watch.

  7. 7

    A 2.0 GPA, above 2 of 123

That is against the other to-do list apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  8. 8

    Your call

A to-do list at its plainest is tasks with dates, repeats and a box to tick.

The report card

Best for a different face on Apple Reminders

Memento is another view on Apple Reminders for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Watch and Vision: it reads the same lists, with grid or list layouts and alerts by time or place. It's $5.99 with no free version or trial, so you buy before you see it. It's Apple only, it leans on Background App Refresh to notice new reminders, and two lists with the same name can get reordered.

ToolGPA report cardMementoGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyA$5.99 once, covering iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple Vision, with no in-app purchases. A year on this category's middle subscription is about $48, so this is a month and a half of that and then nothing.
Free plan and trialFNothing is free here. It's a paid download at $5.99 with no free version and no trial, so you hand over the money before you find out whether you like the layouts.
FeaturesCIt does its one job: grid or list layouts, groups of overdue, today, upcoming and someday, alerts by time or place, and notifications you can complete or snooze from the Watch. But that job is a front end on Apple's own Reminders, so the planning is still Apple's.
Ease of useC4.38 from 313 App Store ratings, in the middle band. There's nothing to move over, as it opens the Reminders you already have, but it leans on Background App Refresh to notice new ones, and same-named lists can get reordered.
Platforms and integrationsCOne family of devices: iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple Vision, synced by iCloud, with Siri and an iMessage app. No Android, Windows or web version, and nothing outside Apple to connect to.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.0

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Memento is for

  • Fits if your lists already live in Apple Reminders and you want a different view of them
  • Works for reminders that need both a time and a place, like "buy milk" when you leave work

Who it is not for

  • Not for you if you want to try before you buy, as there's no free version or trial
  • Skip it if you use Android or Windows, since it only runs on Apple devices
  • Too light for projects, because it's a new front end for Reminders, not a planner
  • Watch out: same-named lists can get their reminders reordered, and new reminders depend on Background App Refresh

Good to know

Good for

  • Apple Reminders users who want a different interface
  • Reminders that need both a time and a place
  • Buyers who want one purchase across their Apple devices

Worth knowing

  • Apple platforms only: the listing covers iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Vision and Apple Watch.
  • It is a paid download at $5.99 with no free version or trial.
  • Lists are identified by their titles, so the support page warns that two lists with the same name can cause reminders to be reordered.
  • The support page says iOS limits background updates, so the app relies on Background App Refresh to notice new reminders.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Your call

A to-do list at its plainest is tasks with dates, repeats and a box to tick.

You could make the core of Memento for yourself: tasks. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call. At $5.99, paid once, it costs less than the weekend it would take to replace, which is the argument for keeping it.

What you could make

  • Tasks: an app builder makes this well.

What you could not

  • Apps for macOS and iOS that stay in step with each other.
  • Hooks into the device itself: an Apple Watch app and widgets.

What this rests on. Memento’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
