Microsoft PowerPoint refunds and cancellation
Good · checked Oct 18, 2026
PowerPoint is not sold on its own, so you are buying a Microsoft 365 subscription and you get Microsoft's account-wide policy: 30 days from the first purchase, and a second right to claim back the most recent renewal charge if you cancel within 30 days of it. That is longer than most. It falls short of an A because Microsoft hedges the first-purchase refund with in most cases, works out your eligibility only once you have cancelled, and drops your storage to 5 GB when you go.

The subscription refund policy says that in most cases a refund is available within 30 days of the initial purchase or before the first recurring billing date, whichever comes first, and separately that you are entitled to a refund of your most recent recurring charge if you cancel within 30 days of that payment, once per Microsoft account per subscription product. Prorated refunds exist only in listed countries.
Stated on support.microsoft.com- How to cancel Microsoft PowerPoint
A Microsoft 365 subscription bought from Microsoft is cancelled on the Microsoft account page for Microsoft 365, by selecting Cancel subscription. Microsoft says not all cancellations end in a refund and that eligibility is worked out automatically during the cancellation, so you cancel first and learn afterwards. One bought on Google Play, the App Store or from a retailer is cancelled with them instead.
- Open the Microsoft account page for Microsoft 365 and sign in with the account that bought the subscription
- Select Cancel subscription, which may be labelled Upgrade or Cancel
- Read the Please review section at the top of the cancellation page
- Read the rest of the page, including the cheaper plans Microsoft suggests
- At the bottom, select I don't want my subscription to confirm
- What you keep afterwards
Microsoft says cancelling cuts your allowance to 5 GB of cloud storage plus 15 GB of Outlook.com storage, and that on a Family or Premium plan everyone you shared with is cut back too. Anyone over the free allowance cannot upload, edit or sync new files to OneDrive, cannot send or receive Outlook.com email, and after 6 months Microsoft may delete the OneDrive and every file in it.
Stated on support.microsoft.com- Renewals
While recurring billing is on, Microsoft bills on the renewal date, monthly or yearly by plan. Turning recurring billing off means no further charge, and the page says you and anyone sharing a Family subscription keep using it as normal until the expiry date. No reminder before a renewal is mentioned.

In your favour
- Thirty days from the purchase to change your mind, which is as generous as this market gets.
- A renewal you did not want can be claimed back if you cancel within 30 days of the charge.
- You do it all yourself in your Microsoft account, with nobody to write to.
- Turning recurring billing off leaves the subscription running normally until it expires.
Watch out for
- Microsoft says not all cancellations end in a refund and decides your eligibility during the cancellation.
- The refund on a renewal is one time only, per Microsoft account and per subscription product.
- Cancelling drops you to 5 GB of storage, and OneDrive files over that may be deleted after six months.
- Bought it on Google Play, the App Store or from a retailer? They handle cancelling and refunds, not Microsoft.
Getting help from Microsoft PowerPoint
Good · checked Oct 18, 2026
Everyone who pays can get to a person. PowerPoint is one of the products on Microsoft's Contact Us page, and that page says live chat with a Microsoft specialist sits behind the self-help suggestions. It is not an A because Microsoft never says when that chat is open or how long you will wait: only business admins get published hours and a published phone number.
Ways to get help
Live chat
The Contact Us page asks you to sign in and choose a product, PowerPoint among them, shows self-help first and then says further help is available including live chat with a Microsoft specialist. No hours are given for it.
Stated on support.microsoft.comPhone
For Microsoft 365 for business, Microsoft publishes a list of support phone numbers by country for admins, with a PIN check if the call comes from a number the admin centre does not hold. Consumer plans get no number on these pages.
Stated on learn.microsoft.comHelp centre

- When people answer
Hours are stated only for business subscriptions: technical support in English 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with local languages varying by country, and billing support in English from 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday, in most countries. Nothing on the consumer contact page gives hours.
Stated on learn.microsoft.com- How fast it says it replies
Its pages do not say.
- What depends on your plan
The business routes are open only to admins of a Microsoft 365 for business subscription bought through Microsoft, and the page says anyone who bought everything from a partner goes to that partner. Consumer plans, and the free web version of PowerPoint, use the general Contact Us page.

In your favour
- The contact page says a Microsoft specialist, not a bot, is at the other end of the chat.
- Business admins get a published phone list and technical support in English around the clock.
- PowerPoint help and learning is large and open to everyone, free web users included.
Watch out for
- No hours and no reply time are published for the chat consumers use.
- You work through the self-help suggestions before the chat is offered at all.
- Consumer plans get no phone number: the published list is for business admins.
- Buy a business plan through a reseller and Microsoft points you back at the reseller.
What these two grades rest on. Read on 18 October 2026: Microsoft's subscription refund policy, its articles on cancelling Microsoft 365 and on turning recurring billing on or off, the Contact Us page, the Microsoft 365 admin support page, the PowerPoint help site and the Microsoft Q&A Office tag. These are account-wide Microsoft 365 rules, not a policy for PowerPoint. Nobody here cancelled a plan or contacted support. They are graded apart from the five that make the GPA.
