Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

3.2

GPA, above 59 of the 65 other focus apps we grade

myNoise is a library of background noise and soundscape generators for focus, sleep and relaxation, built by signal-processing engineer and sound designer Stéphane Pigeon. Every generator has sliders that set the level of each layer, so a soundscape can be shaped to your hearing and your surroundings. The website is free, ad-free and funded by donations, and separate iOS and Android apps add offline listening.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about myNoise, taken from its own pages and our grades.

On the website you open a generator and move the sliders until it sounds right.
From our grade for ease of use
  1. 1

Best for background noise you can tune layer by layer

myNoise is background noise with a slider for every layer, so you turn the rain up and the wind down to suit your room.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $5 a month

As its pricing page puts it: $10 one-time donation, or $5 / month (lifetime website access).

  3. 3

    There is a free plan

The website is free and ad-free with a curated selection of generators, and the mobile apps are free downloads with a selection of free soundscapes.

  4. 4

    It runs on 3 platforms

    Web, iOS and Android.

  5. 5

    Adjustable sound generators

Each soundscape has its own sliders, so you set the level of every layer, such as waves, wind and rain, instead of playing a fixed recording.

  6. 6

    Noise colors and speech masking

White Noise & Co plays white, pink, brown and gray noise, and the Speech Blocker generator is set to the average speech spectrum to cover background chatter.

  7. 7

    Generators grouped by purpose

The index sorts sounds by use, including focus, sleep, tinnitus relief, ADHD, open-plan offices, baby sleep, relaxing music and binaural beats.

  8. 8

The report card

Best for background noise you can tune layer by layer

myNoise is background noise with a slider for every layer, so you turn the rain up and the wind down to suit your room. The website is free and ad-free, and a $10 donation opens all of it for life. But free shows a curated selection, the phone apps are sold separately with prices only in the stores, and the sounds are for personal use only.

ToolGPA report cardmyNoiseGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyAA one-time $10 donation buys lifetime access to every generator on the website, where this category's typical subscription runs about $48 a year. Give $5 a month instead and you keep the access after cancelling. The iPhone app is a separate unlock at $14.99 or $19.99.
Free plan and trialBThe website is free and ad-free, sliders and all, and the apps come with free soundscapes, so one person could sit on this for good. The limit: free visitors see a curated selection and the full index needs a donation.
FeaturesCA slider for every layer of every soundscape, white, pink, brown and grey noise, a Speech Blocker tuned to cover chatter, and generators sorted by use from focus to tinnitus. It does background sound completely, which is a smaller job than this category's: no blocking, nothing tracked.
Ease of useA4.7 from about 1,100 App Store ratings. On the website you open a generator and move the sliders until it sounds right. No account, no setup.
Platforms and integrationsBAny browser on any computer, plus iPhone and Android apps with offline listening. No desktop app and no integrations are listed, and a website donation doesn't unlock the phone apps.
Grade point averageVery good, out of 4.03.2

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who myNoise is for

  • Fits if you need to drown out office chatter or a noisy house while you work
  • Works for people who want to tune each layer of a soundscape themselves

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you expect one payment to cover everything, as the website and the phone apps are sold separately
  • Tight if you're staying free, because you only see a curated selection of generators
  • Not for you if you want it playing in a shop or a video, since the sounds are for personal use only
  • Watch out: the iPhone app lists two unlocks, at $14.99 and $19.99, without saying how they differ
  • Too light for blocking or tracking, as it only plays sound, and there's no desktop app

Good to know

Good for

  • People masking office chatter or household noise while they work
  • Listeners who want to tune each layer of a soundscape themselves
  • Sleep, tinnitus relief and meditation as well as focus
  • Anyone who prefers a one-time payment to a subscription

Worth knowing

  • Free visitors see only a curated selection of generators; the full index needs a donation.
  • A website donation does not unlock the mobile apps, which are sold separately through the app stores.
  • App pricing is not on the website: the US App Store lists unlocks at $14.99 and $19.99, and Google Play lists in-app items from $0.99 to $24.99.
  • The sounds are for personal use only; commercial or public use needs a license from myNoise.

myNoise sits between: not beyond making, and not a weekend's work either. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call. It costs $60 a year.

What you could not

  • A library of sound you would have to license.
  • A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
