Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

3.2

GPA, above 129 of the 147 other note-taking apps we grade

MyScript Notes, formerly called Nebo, is a pen-first note-taking app for iPad, iPhone and Android devices. It recognizes handwriting in 66 languages and turns handwritten text, math and diagrams into typed text and clean shapes, across four note formats: notebooks, documents, boards and PDFs. Paid plans add generative AI tools for summaries, explanations and quizzes, along with cloud sync.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about MyScript Notes, taken from its own pages and our grades.

Editing with pen gestures in place of menus is the whole idea, so there's a little to pick up at the start.

The report card

Best for turning handwriting into typed text

MyScript Notes, formerly Nebo, turns handwriting into typed text in 66 languages, tidies sketched diagrams into shapes and solves sums you write. But the free version stops at five pages a notebook with no sync or AI, it's sold through the app stores alone with prices that don't say which is monthly, yearly or lifetime, Family Sharing isn't supported, and on Windows you get the old Nebo with no new features.

ToolGPA report cardMyScript NotesGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyAFull Access shows on the US App Store at $1.99, $7.99 and $29.99, and the store doesn't label which is monthly, yearly or lifetime. Even on the gloomiest reading that's under the $2.99 cheapest quarter for notes apps here, and one purchase covers up to 10 devices.
Free plan and trialCThere is a free version, but a notebook stops at five pages and you get no cloud sync and no AI, so it's a look round rather than a home. A 7-day trial comes with the monthly and yearly subscriptions.
FeaturesBHandwriting to typed text in 66 languages, pen gestures instead of menus, four note formats, sums solved from your handwriting, math copied out as LaTeX and sketched diagrams turned into shapes you can still edit in PowerPoint. Nothing's missing from the handwriting job itself.
Ease of useA4.7 from about 39,000 App Store ratings, which is the top mark on our scale. Editing with pen gestures in place of menus is the whole idea, so there's a little to pick up at the start.
Platforms and integrationsBiPad, iPhone and Android are where it lives, with Mac and Windows listed too, though on Windows it's still the old Nebo, bought separately and getting no new features. Sync runs through iCloud, Google Drive or Dropbox on paid plans, and there's no web version.
Grade point averageVery good, out of 4.03.2

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who MyScript Notes is for

  • Fits if you write with a stylus and want typed text out the other end
  • Works for notes full of math and diagrams, not just words

Who it is not for

  • Tight if you're staying free, because notebooks are capped at five pages each, with no cloud sync or AI
  • Skip it if you share purchases with family, as Family Sharing isn't supported
  • Not for you if Windows is your main machine, since that app is the old Nebo, bought separately, with no new features
  • Watch out: the store doesn't label which of $1.99, $7.99 and $29.99 is monthly, yearly or lifetime, and the vendor's page lists no prices
  • Too light for working in a browser, as there's no web version

Good to know

Good for

  • Stylus users who want handwriting turned into typed text
  • Students revising with AI summaries and quizzes
  • Handwritten math, diagrams and PDF annotation

Worth knowing

  • The free version limits notebooks to five pages each and leaves out cloud sync and AI features.
  • It is sold only through the App Store and Google Play, and the vendor's own pricing page lists plan types without prices.
  • On Windows the app is still Nebo: a separate Microsoft Store purchase that syncs with MyScript Notes but gets no new features.
  • Family Sharing is not supported, because each user needs their own MyScript account.

Part 04 · Standing

Where it stands

Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own

MyScript Notes's GPA of 3.2 is higher than 129 of the 147 other note-taking apps we grade, and level with 8.

It stands best on ease of use (A, above 133 of 147) and worst on free plan and trial (C, above 7).

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

The plain part of MyScript Notes you could make: notes. What surrounds it you could not. The 7 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 3.2 is higher than 129 of the 147 other note-taking apps we grade.

What you could make

  • Notes: an app builder makes this well.

What you could not

  • An endless canvas that stays smooth with hundreds of things on it.
  • A diagram editor.
  • Apps for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
  • It plugs into other products, iCloud, Google Drive and Dropbox among them.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • Hooks into the device itself: handwriting.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. MyScript Notes’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
