Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.8

GPA, above 72 of the 147 other note-taking apps we grade

NoteCase Pro is an outliner and note manager by Miroslav Rajčić that arranges notes in a tree inside document files. Notes take rich text, pictures, attachments, tags and task details such as due dates, and the program can be automated with Lua scripts and plugins. Desktop builds cover Windows, macOS, Linux and several BSD and Solaris systems, and a separate Android edition reads the same file format.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about NoteCase Pro, taken from its own pages and our grades.

No store rating is on record to go by, and the Android edition is a different code base with fewer features.

The report card

Best for one scriptable outliner across Windows, Mac and Linux

NoteCase Pro is an outliner for people who think in trees and like to tinker: notes nest in a tree, take files and due dates, and the program can be scripted in Lua. It runs on Windows, Mac, Linux and BSD, with lifetime licenses from €37. But the license menu has six options, the €7 one covers only the exact version you bought, keys can take 24 hours to arrive, and there's no iPhone or web version.

ToolGPA report cardNoteCase ProGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyAAll one-time. €7 buys the exact current version on one operating system, €17 one major version, and lifetime is €37 for one system or €67 for all of them with Android. Notes apps here run about $6 a month in the middle, so even the dearest is roughly a year of one, paid once.
Free plan and trialCThe free Lite mode is Android only, and it drops encrypted documents, attachments, search and sorting, which is most of the point. On desktop it's a 30-day trial with everything switched on, and then you need a license.
FeaturesBA tree you can reorder with cloned branches that stay in step, rich text, pictures and attachments saved inside the document, tasks with due dates and repeats, tags, encrypted formats, sync, import from 30-plus formats, and Lua scripting with an MCP server. Nothing core is missing.
Ease of useCThe buying is the chore: six license types to pick between, and the key is emailed by the developer personally, which can take up to 24 hours. No store rating is on record to go by, and the Android edition is a different code base with fewer features.
Platforms and integrationsBWindows, macOS, Linux and several BSD and Solaris systems, plus a separate Android edition that reads the same files, with Lua scripts and a built-in MCP server for other things to talk to it. No iPhone or web version.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.8

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who NoteCase Pro is for

  • Fits if you switch between Windows, a Mac and Linux and want the same outliner on each
  • Works for planning long documents as a tree with source files attached, and for scripting it in Lua

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you have an iPhone, as there's no iOS or web version
  • Not for you if you want a free desktop app, because the free Lite mode is Android only
  • Tight if you buy the €7 license, since it's valid only for the exact version on sale that day, on one system
  • Watch out: license keys are emailed by the developer personally, which can take up to 24 hours, and VAT may be added
  • Watch out: the Android edition is a different code base with fewer features

Good to know

Good for

  • People who want one outliner on Windows, macOS and Linux
  • Writers who outline and draft long documents in a tree
  • Users who like to script their notes program

Worth knowing

  • The free Lite mode exists only on Android; on desktop a license is required once the 30-day trial ends.
  • The cheaper licenses are tied to one operating system and to an exact version or one major version; only lifetime licenses have no version limit.
  • The Android edition has a different code base with fewer features, and the site lists no iOS or web version.
  • License keys are emailed by the developer personally, which can take up to 24 hours, and VAT may be added to the listed prices.

NoteCase Pro's GPA of 2.8 is higher than 72 of the 147 other note-taking apps we grade, and level with 34.

It stands best on value for money (A, above 62 of 147) and worst on ease of use (C, above 5).

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Your call

A notes app at its plainest is text in folders with a search box.

You could make the core of NoteCase Pro for yourself: notes, tasks and templates. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call. At $5, paid once, it costs less than the weekend it would take to replace, which is the argument for keeping it.

What you could make

  • Notes, tasks and templates: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Apps for macOS, Windows, Linux and Android that stay in step with each other.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. NoteCase Pro’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
