Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.6

GPA, above 50 of the 147 other note-taking apps we grade

Noticky is a Mac menu bar app for sticky notes that stay on top of other windows, including fullscreen apps. Notes can be linked to a specific app, recalled with keyboard shortcuts, docked to a screen edge and hidden from screen sharing, and they are written in live-rendered Markdown. The Mac app is a one-time purchase; a separate iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch app with a free tier arranges notes on visual walls and syncs with the Mac through iCloud.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Noticky, taken from its own pages and our grades.

No store rating on record, so we go by the listing: it lives in the menu bar, and Command-Shift-N opens a capture window from any app.

The report card

Best for sticky notes that float over fullscreen Mac apps

Noticky keeps sticky notes floating over fullscreen Mac apps, such as talking points over a call or a checklist over your code editor, and can hide them from screen sharing. It's $9.99 once on the Mac. But the Mac app has no free tier and sales are final, the iPhone app is a separate $4.99 purchase that doesn't carry across, the Mac app needs macOS 15, and it's Apple only.

ToolGPA report cardNotickyGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyA$9.99 once for the Mac app, future updates included, and $4.99 once for Pro on iPhone and iPad. A year of the middle note app here is $72, at $6 a month, so the pair of them costs a fifth of that and never renews.
Free plan and trialCThe free version is the iPhone and iPad app, and it stops at 1 wall of up to 8 notes. The Mac app, which is the real product, has no free tier at all: the site says trial terms depend on where you buy, and the terms say all sales are final.
FeaturesCIt does the floating-sticky job completely. Notes sit above fullscreen apps, link to a Mac app, dock to a screen edge, lock with Touch ID and stay out of screen sharing, and Markdown renders as you type. But that's a smaller job than note-taking, and it isn't trying to be your notebook.
Ease of useBNo store rating on record, so we go by the listing: it lives in the menu bar, and Command-Shift-N opens a capture window from any app. There's nothing to set up beyond that.
Platforms and integrationsCMac, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, synced through iCloud, with Apple Shortcuts, PopClip and a local MCP server for Claude Desktop or Codex. One family of devices, and the Mac app needs macOS 15 Sequoia or later. No Windows, Android or web version.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.6

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Noticky is for

  • Fits if you need a note in view over a fullscreen app on a Mac
  • Works for people who share their screen a lot and want private notes left out of it

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you use Windows or Android, as it's Apple devices only
  • Not for you if you want to try the Mac app free first, because it has no free tier and sales are final
  • Tight if you're on the free iPhone version, with 1 wall of up to 8 notes
  • Watch out: the Mac and iPhone apps are separate purchases at $9.99 and $4.99, and iCloud sync doesn't carry one across
  • Tight if your Mac runs anything older than macOS 15 Sequoia, which the app needs

Good to know

Good for

  • Keeping a note in view above a fullscreen app on the Mac
  • People who share their screen and want private notes left out
  • Mac users who want sticky notes tied to the apps they work in
  • Buyers who prefer one-time purchases to subscriptions

Worth knowing

  • The Mac app needs macOS 15 Sequoia or later, and there is no Windows, Android or web version.
  • The Mac and iPhone apps are sold separately at $9.99 and $4.99, and iCloud sync does not carry a purchase across.
  • The Mac app has no free tier; the site says trial terms depend on the purchase channel, and the terms state that all sales are final.
  • The free iPhone version is limited to 1 wall with up to 8 notes.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

The plain part of Noticky you could make: notes, Markdown and templates. What surrounds it you could not. The 5 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

It costs $4.99, paid once.

What you could make

  • Notes, Markdown and templates: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • A native app living in the menu bar.
  • Capture tools hooked into the operating system.
  • Apps for macOS and iOS that stay in step with each other.
  • It plugs into other products, iCloud, Apple Reminders and Apple Calendar among them.
  • Hooks into the device itself: an Apple Watch app and Shortcuts.

What this rests on. Noticky’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
