Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.6
GPA, above 30 of the 65 other focus apps we grade
Pomello is a desktop Pomodoro timer for Mac, Windows and Linux that takes its tasks from Trello: you pick a card and the timer runs timed work intervals and breaks against it. The window is kept small, and productivity tracking and time tracking are part of the free Basic plan. Premium adds checklist items as tasks, custom timer sounds and data export.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Pomello, taken from its own pages and our grades.
No store rating on record, and before the timer does anything you have to connect a Trello account and have boards worth running against.

The report card
Best for running Pomodoros against your Trello cards
Pomello is a desktop Pomodoro timer that takes its tasks from Trello: pick a card, start the clock. Basic is free with time tracking, and Premium is $20 a year. It has no task list of its own, so without Trello it does nothing, it's desktop only, and the current version is 0.10.17 with release notes kept on a Trello board.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | A | Premium is $20 a year, about $1.67 a month, which is under the lowest-priced quarter of this category. It adds checklist items as tasks, custom timer sounds and data export. The toggle shows $2 a month if you'd rather. |
| Free plan and trial | A | Basic is described as always free, with unlimited boards and lists, productivity tracking and time tracking, and no cap a normal person would meet. The paid extras are conveniences, not the core. |
| Features | D | Your Trello cards become the tasks a Pomodoro runs against, with time tracking on both plans and a window that stays out of the way. The catch is in the first word: it needs Trello to do anything at all, because the site describes no task list of Pomello's own. |
| Ease of use | C | No store rating on record, and before the timer does anything you have to connect a Trello account and have boards worth running against. Worth knowing the current download is version 0.10.17 and the release notes live on a public Trello board. |
| Platforms and integrations | C | Desktop apps for Mac, Windows and Linux, tied to Trello. Computers only: the download page tells other devices they aren't supported, so there's no phone or web version. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Pomello is for
- Fits if your tasks already live on Trello boards
- Works for people on Mac, Windows or Linux who want a small timer window that stays out of the way
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you don't use Trello, as it has no task list of its own
- Not for you if you want the timer on your phone or in a browser, since it's desktop only
- Tight if you're staying free and work from checklists, because checklist items as tasks, custom sounds and export are Premium
- Watch out: the current download is version 0.10.17, and release notes live on a public Trello board, not the site
Good to know
Good for
- Trello users who want to run Pomodoro sessions against their cards
- Desktop work on Mac, Windows or Linux

Worth knowing
- Tasks are organized in Trello; the vendor's site describes no task list of Pomello's own.
- Desktop only: the download page offers Mac, Windows and Linux apps and tells other devices they are not supported.
- Checklist items as tasks, custom timer sounds and productivity data export need Premium.
- The current download is version 0.10.17, and release notes are kept on a public Trello board, not on the site.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Your call
A focus timer at its plainest counts down 25 minutes and keeps a log.
You could make the core of Pomello for yourself: Pomodoro timer and time tracking. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call. At $20 a year it costs less than the weekend it would take to replace, which is the argument for keeping it.
What you could make
- Pomodoro timer and time tracking: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- Apps for macOS, Windows and Linux that stay in step with each other.
What this rests on. Pomello’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
