QuickBooks Workforce refunds and cancellation
Weak · checked Oct 18, 2026
Intuit advertises a 60-day money-back guarantee, then rules out exactly what you are buying: it covers Desktop software and annual QuickBooks Online subscriptions, not monthly ones and not renewals. Workforce payroll is billed monthly, and the terms say there are no refunds or credits for a cancellation or part of a period. Leaving can cost you too: Intuit says it charges $150 if you ask it to prepare year-end filings or W-2s afterwards. A D.

Stated on quickbooks.intuit.com- How to cancel QuickBooks Workforce
A QuickBooks Workforce payroll subscription is cancelled in the product: go to Settings, open Subscriptions and billing, select Cancel in the Payroll section and fill in the online cancellation form. Intuit says it cannot edit the form once submitted, and that only a Master or Company Administrator sees the tab. It tells you to run your final payroll and settle outstanding filings first.
- Run and process your final payroll, and print the payroll reports you need
- Pay any outstanding tax deposits and file any outstanding quarterly or annual forms
- Go to Settings and select Subscriptions and billing
- In the Payroll section, select Cancel
- Fill in the online cancellation form and submit it
- What you keep afterwards
Intuit says you keep access to your payroll data until one year after the cancellation date, and tells you to export and save copies of your reports. On a full-service plan it says to leave your bank account open until it debits the outstanding tax liabilities, and that it emails a confirmation within 3 business days of reviewing the request and again when the cancellation is done.
Stated on quickbooks.intuit.com- Renewals
The QuickBooks Online terms say payment renews automatically at the end of each subscription period and that you can cancel at any time, with the cancellation taking effect the day after the last day of the current period. Cancel mid-period and you keep using the service to the end of it, with no refund or credit. No reminder before a renewal is mentioned, and the money-back guarantee excludes renewals.

In your favour
- You cancel in your own settings rather than having to phone anyone to be talked out of it.
- Cancel mid-period and you keep the service until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Your payroll data stays reachable for a year after cancelling, which matters at tax time.
- The help article tells you plainly what to finish first: final payroll, reports, outstanding filings.
Watch out for
- The 60-day money-back guarantee does not cover monthly subscriptions or renewals, which is how payroll is billed.
- Intuit says it charges $150 to prepare year-end filings or W-2s if you ask after cancelling.
- The cancellation form cannot be changed once you submit it, and Intuit takes up to 3 business days to review it.
- Only a Master or Company Administrator can cancel, so anyone else has to go and find one.
Getting help from QuickBooks Workforce
Good · checked Oct 18, 2026
Every QuickBooks Workforce plan lists payroll support experts reachable by phone and by chat, which is more than most software gives you at any price, and there is a deep help centre and a busy user community behind it. What's missing is the promise: the payroll pages publish hours for the sales line but not for support, and no reply time is stated anywhere. Live help on every plan without a stated hour is a B.
Ways to get help
Live chat
The same Expert product support line on each plan names chat alongside phone. The pages do not say whether a bot answers first or when the chat is staffed.
Stated on quickbooks.intuit.comPhone
The payroll pricing page lists Expert product support on Workforce Payroll, Premium and Elite alike, described as payroll support experts available by phone and chat for step-by-step help and troubleshooting.
Stated on quickbooks.intuit.comHelp inside the app
The help article on cancelling says you can reach an expert from inside the product: sign in, type cancel into the Assistant panel, choose Cancel subscription and follow the steps.
Stated on quickbooks.intuit.comHelp centre
The QuickBooks support site holds help articles by topic, tutorials, how-to videos, webinars and training classes, and is free to read without signing in.
Stated on quickbooks.intuit.comCommunity or forum
The QuickBooks Community is a public question-and-answer forum where other customers and Intuit staff answer, with sections for product questions and for running a business.

- When people answer
Its pages do not say.
- How fast it says it replies
Its pages do not say.
- What depends on your plan
Expert product support, meaning payroll experts by phone and chat, is listed on all three Workforce plans rather than being held back for the dearer ones. Premium adds an expert review of your payroll setup and Elite adds expert setup and an HR advisor, but no page describes a priority queue or a faster reply on the higher plans.

In your favour
- Phone and chat with payroll experts are listed on the cheapest Workforce plan, not just the dear ones.
- You can reach an expert from inside the product through the Assistant panel.
- The help centre is large and free, with tutorials, webinars and training classes alongside the articles.
- The community forum is public, so you can read other people's answers before asking.
Watch out for
- The payroll pages publish hours for the sales line but none for product support.
- No reply time is stated for phone, chat or anything else.
- The pages do not say whether the chat reaches a person straight away or starts with a bot.
- Intuit's own small print says support options can change without notice.
What these two grades rest on. Read on 18 October 2026: the QuickBooks Online terms of service, Intuit's return policy and its help article on requesting a refund, the help articles on cancelling a payroll subscription and a QuickBooks Online subscription, the Workforce pricing and payroll pages with their small print, and the QuickBooks support site and community. Nobody here cancelled a plan, asked for a refund or contacted its support. They are graded apart from the five that make the GPA. How we grade refunds and support.
