Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.6
GPA, above 23 of the 48 other AI meeting note takers we grade
Read AI generates transcripts, recaps and action items for meetings on Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Its desktop apps record meetings directly from the computer, and the phone apps capture in-person meetings. It also summarizes email and messaging and offers a search assistant that answers questions with citations. The free plan covers 5 meeting transcripts a month, and audio and video playback is reserved for the Enterprise tiers.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Read AI, taken from its own pages and our grades.
The free plan asks for no card, and the recap turns up without you taking a single note.

The report card
Best for one search across meetings, email and chat
Read AI is a meeting notetaker for Meet, Zoom and Teams that also summarizes email and chat, and answers questions across all three with its sources cited. The price holds it back. Pro is $15 a user a month on the yearly plan and $19.75 monthly, replaying the recording waits for Enterprise at $22.50, every seat in a workspace must be on the same plan, and there are no refunds.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | D | Pro is $15 a user a month billed yearly and $19.75 month to month, so you're at the dear end of this category on the yearly plan and in its dearest tenth if you pay monthly. Pro works from transcripts only: playback waits for Enterprise at $22.50. No refunds, either. |
| Free plan and trial | C | 5 meeting transcripts a month, with summaries, unlimited search, the meeting coach, basic integrations and the desktop and phone apps, and no card asked for. Five is a handful, though — in calls most days and you're done by the second week. |
| Features | B | It covers the job: recaps, action items and highlights on Meet, Zoom and Teams, search that answers with citations across meetings, email and messaging, and a coach on how you speak. Playback and video highlights are Enterprise only. |
| Ease of use | B | 4.9 from about 970 App Store ratings, just short of the 1,000 an A needs. The free plan asks for no card, and the recap turns up without you taking a single note. |
| Platforms and integrations | A | Web, Mac, Windows, iPhone, Android and a browser extension, working with Zoom, Meet, Teams, Gmail, Outlook and Slack, with premium links to Notion, Salesforce, HubSpot, Jira and Zapier from Pro. There's an MCP server and an API as well. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Read AI is for
- Fits if you want one search across your meetings, email and chat, with sources cited
- Works for university staff and students with a .edu email, on the EDU plan at $60 a year
Who it is not for
- Tight if you stay free and sit in more than 5 meetings a month, the free plan's cap
- Pricey if all you want is notes, at $15 a user a month on the yearly plan and $19.75 monthly
- Skip it if you want to replay the recording, because playback and video highlights need Enterprise at $22.50
- Watch out: every license in a workspace must be on the same plan, and Enterprise+ needs at least 5
- Watch out: there are no refunds, so a canceled plan just runs to the end of the billing period
Good to know
Good for
- People who want one search across meetings, email and chat
- Students and staff at universities, who get low-cost EDU plans
- People who want coaching feedback on how they run meetings
Worth knowing
- The Free plan covers 5 meeting transcripts a month.
- Audio and video playback and video highlights need Enterprise; the Pro plan does not include them.
- All licenses in a workspace must be on the same plan, and Enterprise+ requires at least 5 licenses.
- Read AI does not offer refunds; a canceled subscription runs to the end of the billing period.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Read AI you would be making a bot that joins your calls and turns the talk into notes. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
It costs $180 a year.
What you could not
- A bot that joins your calls and turns the talk into notes.
- A search engine with an AI model behind it.
- An AI model, which you can rent by the request but not make.
- Speech turned into text you can trust.
- Apps for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
- It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
- It plugs into other products, Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams among them, and has an API.
- People on the other end: coaches. No app builder makes those.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Read AI’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
