Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.4

GPA, above 4 of the 15 other remote desktop apps we grade

RealVNC Connect is remote access software from RealVNC, the company that invented VNC. You install it on each Windows, Mac or Linux computer you want to reach and connect from another computer or from the free RealVNC Viewer apps for iPhone, iPad and Android. It is used both for reaching your own computers and for IT support, with free, paid and trial subscriptions.

To get you started, here are 8 things to know about RealVNC Connect, taken from its own pages and our grades.

Sign in to the Viewer with your RealVNC account and your computers appear, with no router or firewall setup.
From our grade for ease of use
  1. 1

Best for reaching your computers from the makers of VNC

Its website turned our reader away, so there are no prices or free-plan limits on record.

  2. 2

    There is a free plan

RealVNC says free, paid and trial subscriptions exist, and its free Lite plan has replaced the old Home plan. The Lite plan's limits could not be read.

  3. 3

    It runs on 5 platforms

Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android.

  4. 4

    Cloud connections

Sign in to the Viewer with your RealVNC account and your remote computers appear automatically, with no firewall or router setup.

  5. 5

    Direct connections

With an Enterprise subscription, or to other VNC-compatible software, connect straight to a computer by its IP address, which may need port forwarding.

  6. 6

    End-to-end encryption

Each remote computer is password-protected out of the box, and RealVNC says all sessions are then encrypted end-to-end.

  7. 7

    A 2.4 GPA, above 4 of 15

That is against the other remote desktop apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  8. 8

    Keep it

To replace RealVNC Connect you would be making a fast, secure link to another computer through any network. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for reaching your computers from the makers of VNC

RealVNC Connect comes from the people who invented VNC, and it does the core job neatly: sign in and your computers show up, with end-to-end encryption and no router setup. Beyond that, we can't tell you much. Its website turned our reader away, so there are no prices or free-plan limits on record.

ToolGPA report cardRealVNC ConnectGraded Oct 18, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCNo price could be read: RealVNC's website refused our reader, so this listing has none. That's the C we give any missing price, with no figure to set against Splashtop, TeamViewer or Jump Desktop for the same job. RealVNC says free, paid and trial subscriptions exist.
Free plan and trialCThere's a free Lite plan, which has replaced the old Home plan, and the phone viewer apps are free. But Lite's limits couldn't be read, so we can't say how far it gets you. On iPhone, connecting to other makers' VNC servers shows ads unless you subscribe.
FeaturesCCloud connections with no firewall setup, end-to-end encryption, free phone viewers and a synced address book. The gaps it lists itself: connecting directly by IP address needs Enterprise, and nothing on record covers file transfer or support sessions.
Ease of useBNo App Store rating on record. Sign in to the Viewer with your RealVNC account and your computers appear, with no router or firewall setup.
Platforms and integrationsBWindows, Mac and Linux computers, plus viewer apps for iPhone, iPad and Android. It also connects to other makers' VNC servers, but there's no web app, integrations or API on record.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.4

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who RealVNC Connect is for

  • Great if you already use VNC and want to stop fiddling with port forwarding
  • Handy when you reach your Linux box from a phone or tablet
  • Good for mixed setups with VNC servers from other makers

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you want to see prices before you sign up, as we couldn't read any
  • Not for you if you connect by IP address and won't pay for Enterprise
  • Pricey if you want ad-free iPhone connections to other VNC servers, as that needs a subscription

Good to know

Good for

  • Reaching your own Windows, Mac or Linux computers from a phone or tablet
  • IT teams already using VNC who want cloud connections without opening ports
  • Connecting to VNC servers from other vendors as well as RealVNC's own

Worth knowing

  • RealVNC's website refused automated readers, so no prices or plan limits could be read; this listing has none.
  • RealVNC is retiring its Home subscriptions and has replaced the Home plan with a new Lite plan, so older guides to the free tier are out of date.
  • On iOS, connecting to non-RealVNC VNC servers shows ads unless you subscribe.
  • Direct connections by IP address to RealVNC Connect need an Enterprise subscription.

Part 02 · Pricing

What it costs

RealVNC Connect's GPA of 2.4 is higher than 4 of the 15 other remote desktop apps we grade, and level with 2.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace RealVNC Connect you would be making a fast, secure link to another computer through any network. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 9 of the 15 other remote desktop apps grade higher.

What you could not

  • A fast, secure link to another computer through any network.
  • Apps for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
  • End-to-end encryption done properly.

What this rests on. RealVNC Connect’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.

Graded from this listing, whose facts were read from RealVNC's own App Store and Google Play listings on 18 October 2026. RealVNC's website refused our reader when we checked it again that day.
