2.6
GPA, above 7 of the 15 other remote desktop apps we grade
RemotePC is remote access software from IDrive, the backup company, priced by the number of computers you can reach. It is mainly for reaching your own or your team's computers, always on, from Windows, Mac, Linux, a web browser, iPhone, iPad or Android, with team and enterprise plans that add user management, single sign-on and on-demand help desk support.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about RemotePC, taken from its own pages and our grades.

The report card
Best for always-on access to one computer, cheaply
RemotePC, from backup company IDrive, is a no-fuss way to keep a computer or two always reachable from a browser, a phone or another machine. One computer costs $2.46 a month on yearly billing after a cheaper first year. There's no free plan, though, and plans are capped by computer count, with $20 a year for each one over.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Solo is $2.46 a month billed annually at renewal, after a first year at $1.84, but it reaches one computer. For a few you're on Pro at $8.29 a month for 10, or paying $20 a year for each one over. Chrome Remote Desktop and Splashtop's personal pack do the same job for less. |
| Free plan and trial | C | No free plan, but a 7-day free trial with no credit card. A week is enough to see whether it suits you. |
| Features | B | Always-on access with unlimited concurrent sessions, multi-monitor, 4:4:4 colour, file transfer, remote printing, recording, chat and Linux and Raspberry Pi hosts. Nothing in the listing is missing from reaching your own machines; RDP and help desk support cost extra. |
| Ease of use | B | No App Store rating on record. Install the host once and the computer's always there, from a browser with nothing to install or from the phone apps. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, Android, Chromebook and Fire OS. Active Directory is the only integration on record and there's no API, so it stops at B. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who RemotePC is for
- Great if you need one office or home computer always reachable for a few dollars
- Handy when you want to connect from a browser without installing anything
- Good for small teams with a fixed set of up to 50 computers
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want a free plan, as there's only a 7-day trial
- Pricey if you keep adding computers, since each one over the cap is $20 a year
- Not for you if you budget on the first-year price, as normal charges apply at renewal
Good to know
Good for
- Individuals reaching one home or office computer for a few dollars a year
- Small teams that need always-on access to a fixed set of computers
- Businesses that already use IDrive and want access from the same vendor
Worth knowing
- Plans are capped by number of computers; each computer over the plan's limit is charged $20 a year in overage.
- Advertised yearly and two-year prices are first-term discounts; normal charges apply when the plan renews.
- The RDP Connector for reaching computers over RDP is an add-on at $20 per computer a year.
- There is no free plan, only the 7-day trial; Pro covers one user, so adding people means Team or above.

Keep it
To replace RemotePC you would be making a fast, secure link to another computer through any network. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
It costs $22.08 a year.
What you could not
- A fast, secure link to another computer through any network.
- Recording the screen with its sound, and somewhere to keep the video.
- Apps for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
- What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: single sign-on and roles and permissions.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
