Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.8

GPA, above 19 of the 26 other AI app builders we grade

Rork builds mobile and web apps from a chat description, writing native iPhone apps in Swift with SwiftUI, native Android apps in Kotlin with Jetpack Compose, and web apps in React. Apps are previewed on a cloud simulator next to the chat and can be submitted to the App Store or packaged for Google Play from inside the product. The free plan only produces designs; building, testing and publishing a working app needs a paid plan with monthly credits.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Rork, taken from its own pages and our grades.

The credit accounting for builds and simulator time is the fiddly part.
From our grade for ease of use
  1. 1

Best for shipping a native app to the App Store

Rork writes native apps from a chat: Swift for iPhone, Kotlin for Android and React for the web, with a simulator running next to the conversation, and it can send your iPhone build to TestFlight and the App Store.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $20 a month

As its pricing page puts it: $20 per month (Rork Pro).

  3. 3

    There is a free plan

Design mode only, with 5 design credits a day and up to 35 a month in major markets (5 a month elsewhere). Projects are private, but it cannot build a working app.

  4. 4

    It runs on 2 platforms

    Web and iOS.

  5. 5

Native iPhone, Android and web apps

The agent writes SwiftUI for iPhone, Kotlin with Jetpack Compose for Android, and React for the web, and can convert an app between the three platforms.

  6. 6

    Design, Plan and Build modes

Design mode proposes screens and a look before any code exists, Plan mode writes a plan for review, and Build mode produces working code on paid plans.

  7. 7

    Cloud simulator and device testing

Apps run on a cloud iOS simulator or Android emulator beside the chat. The Rork Max iPhone app installs and runs Swift builds directly on a phone.

  8. 8

    A 2.8 GPA, above 19 of 26

That is against the other AI app builders we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  9. 9

    Keep it

To replace Rork you would be making a tool that builds and hosts other apps. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for shipping a native app to the App Store

Rork writes native apps from a chat: Swift for iPhone, Kotlin for Android and React for the web, with a simulator running next to the conversation, and it can send your iPhone build to TestFlight and the App Store. But the free plan only draws designs, building anything takes Pro at $20 a month, builds and simulator time cost extra credits, and iPad or Watch apps need $200.

ToolGPA report cardRorkGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCRork Pro is $20 a month, a notch above the $19 middle for builders here, for 100 credits with Build mode on iPhone, Android and web. Watch the metering: iOS builds and cloud simulator sessions cost credits on top of the message that started them. iPad, Watch and Vision Pro apps need Max, from $200.
Free plan and trialCThere is a free plan and no card is wanted, but it's Design mode only: 5 design credits a day, up to 35 a month in major markets and just 5 a month elsewhere. It proposes screens and that's the lot — it cannot build, test or publish a working app.
FeaturesAIt covers the whole job and writes what its rivals don't: real SwiftUI for iPhone and Kotlin with Jetpack Compose for Android, not a cross-platform wrapper, plus React for the web and conversion between all three. It runs them on a cloud simulator, uploads to TestFlight and the App Store, and syncs with GitHub.
Ease of useBNo rating on record. You describe the app, look over the screens it proposes, watch it run on a simulator beside the chat, then submit to the store from inside the product. The credit accounting for builds and simulator time is the fiddly part.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb plus an iPhone app, and that app lists Swift and web projects only, so Android work stays in the browser. No Android or desktop app for building. It connects to GitHub, Supabase, Firebase, RevenueCat, TestFlight and Xcode.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.8

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Rork is for

  • Fits if you can't code and want a native app in the App Store or on Google Play
  • Works for developers who want AI-written Swift or Kotlin to carry on with in an IDE

Who it is not for

  • Not for you if you're staying free, because the free plan designs screens but can't build, test or publish an app
  • Pricey if you want iPad, Apple Watch or Vision Pro apps, games or iOS widgets, which need Max from $200 a month
  • Tight if you test a lot, as iOS builds and simulator sessions are charged in credits on top of the message
  • Watch out: outside major markets the free plan drops to 5 design credits a month
  • Skip it if you want to build Android apps on your phone, since the iPhone app shows Swift and web projects only

Good to know

Good for

  • Non-developers who want to ship a native app to the App Store or Google Play
  • Founders building subscription apps, with RevenueCat paywalls built in
  • Developers who want an AI-written Swift or Kotlin codebase to continue in an IDE

Worth knowing

  • The Free plan runs Design mode only: it proposes screens but cannot build, test or publish a working app.
  • iPad, Apple Watch and Vision Pro apps, native games and iOS widgets need Rork Max, from $200 a month.
  • iOS builds and cloud simulator sessions are charged in credits on top of the message that started them.
  • The iPhone app lists Swift and web projects only; Android projects do not appear in it.

Part 04 · Standing

Where it stands

Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own

19/26

Other AI app builders it is graded above

Rork's GPA of 2.8 is higher than 19 of the 26 other AI app builders we grade, and level with 5.

It stands best on features (A, above 25 of 26) and worst on free plan and trial (C, above 1).

Its paid plans start at $20 a month, against a middle price of $19 for the category: 15 of the 26 others that charge start lower.

On features, ease of use and platforms it scores 3.3 out of 4. 1 tool scores higher and costs less.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Rork you would be making a tool that builds and hosts other apps. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.8 is higher than 19 of the 26 other AI app builders we grade. It costs $240 a year.

What you could not

  • A tool that builds and hosts other apps.
  • A builder that other people can use without writing code.
  • An AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it.
  • A real app for iOS. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • It plugs into other products, GitHub, Supabase and Firebase among them.
  • The depth: we grade its features A, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Rork’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
