Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
3.0
GPA, above 57 of the 74 other calendar and scheduling apps we grade
Saturn is a free calendar app for iPhone and Android from Saturn Technologies Inc. It started as a calendar for high school students and sets up rotating periods, block schedules and A/B days from a school's format; its store listings now also describe it as a calendar for friends and family. Users compare calendars to see when friends are free, create shared calendars for groups, connect Google Calendar and add events by typing or saying a phrase.
To get you started, here are 8 things to know about Saturn, taken from its own pages and our grades.
It costs nothing, with no in-app purchases on the US App Store.

- 3
It runs on 2 platforms

The report card
Best for high school timetables shared with friends
Saturn is a phone calendar built for high school: rotating periods, block schedules, A/B days, and a view of when your friends are free. It costs nothing, with no in-app purchases on the US App Store. But it's phones only with no web or desktop version, Google Calendar is the only outside calendar it names, and you have to be 13 or older to use it.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | A | Free, with no paid plan on Saturn's site and no in-app purchases on the US App Store, in a category where paid calendar tools start around $6 a month. |
| Free plan and trial | A | The complete app is free on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android, with no trial and no paid tier on record. |
| Features | C | Rotating periods, block schedules, A/B days, lunch waves, comparing calendars with friends, shared calendars by link, events typed or spoken. It does the school-timetable job fully, but that's a smaller job than a calendar app's: Google Calendar is the only outside calendar named, and there's no desktop version. |
| Ease of use | B | 4.69 from about 68,000 App Store ratings, which is just under our bar for an A. Type or say "Dinner with Dylan on Tuesday at 7" and it's on the calendar, and shared calendars are joined through a link. |
| Platforms and integrations | C | iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android, with Google Calendar and Snapchat to connect. That's phones only, really. No web or desktop version is listed, and there's no API on record. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Saturn is for
- Fits if you're in high school with rotating periods, block schedules or A/B days
- Works for school clubs and teams that want a shared calendar members join by link
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want your calendar on a laptop, as there's no web or desktop version
- Not for you if your events live outside Google Calendar, the only outside calendar named as a connection
- Not for you if you're under 13, which the terms of use don't allow
- Too light for life after school: the site still pitches it at high schoolers, and school communities are for that school's students only
Good to know
Good for
- High school students with rotating, block or A/B day schedules
- Friends who want to see when each other are free without swapping emails
- Clubs and teams that need a shared calendar members join by link
Worth knowing
- Mobile apps only: iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android. No web or desktop version is listed.
- The website still presents Saturn as the calendar built for high school, and the terms limit each school community to students of that school.
- Google Calendar is the only outside calendar the store listings name as a connection.
- The terms of use require users to be at least 13 years old.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
Saturn is free, so making your own would save you nothing.
And it is not the kind of software a weekend replaces. It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 3.0 is higher than 57 of the 74 other calendar and scheduling apps we grade.
What you could make
- Calendar, tasks and natural-language input: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- Hooks into the device itself: an Apple Watch app and widgets.
- Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
What this rests on. Saturn’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
