Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.2

GPA, above 1 of the 10 other shipping software we grade

Stamps.com lets offices and small businesses print USPS postage and stamps on their own printer and buy discounted labels for USPS, UPS, FedEx and DHL Express. It handles Certified and Registered Mail, address checks, carrier pickups and tracking emails, with web, desktop and mobile apps. Plans are a flat monthly fee, and postage is paid on top.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Stamps.com, taken from its own pages and our grades.

Basic users get a chatbot and the help centre only; phone support starts on Professional.
From our grade for ease of use
  1. 1

Best for offices printing postage and Certified Mail

And the listing shows no store connections, only QuickBooks Online.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $14.99 a month

As its pricing page puts it: $14.99 per month (Basic).

  3. 3

    You can try it first

30-day risk-free trial; no charge until it ends, then billed monthly

  4. 4

    It runs on 5 platforms

Web, Windows, macOS, iOS and Android.

  5. 5

Stamps and postage at your desk

Print USPS stamps and postage for letters and envelopes on an office printer, with custom envelopes and labels.

  6. 6

    Discounted multi-carrier labels

Compares USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL Express and GlobalPost rates. Stamps.com advertises up to 90% off carrier rates; that is its own claim.

  7. 7

    Certified and Registered Mail

Professional and higher send Certified Mail and Registered Mail, with tracking and proof of delivery built in.

  8. 8

    A 2.2 GPA, above 1 of 10

That is against the other shipping software we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  9. 9

    Keep it

To replace Stamps.com you would be making discounted carrier rates and labels, which take an agreement with each carrier. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for offices printing postage and Certified Mail

Stamps.com is a postage meter replacement first: stamps on your office printer, Certified and Registered Mail, and discounted labels for USPS, UPS, FedEx and DHL Express. Basic at $14.99 stops at 10 labels a month, so a shop sending 200 parcels needs Professional at $29.99. And the listing shows no store connections, only QuickBooks Online.

ToolGPA report cardStamps.comGraded Oct 18, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCBasic's 10 labels a month won't cover 200 parcels, so the figure is Professional at $29.99 a month, with unlimited labels and no label fee listed. That's above the dearer quarter of this category, short of its dearest, and no yearly price is on record.
Free plan and trialCNo free plan. There's a 30-day trial with no charge until it ends, and then it bills monthly. The listing doesn't say whether it needs a card.
FeaturesCStamps and postage at your desk, labels for USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL Express and GlobalPost, Certified Mail, pickups and address checks. But tracking emails need Professional, and the listing shows no store or marketplace connections for online orders.
Ease of useC4.11 from 625 App Store ratings for its mobile app, which is the middle band. Basic users get a chatbot and the help centre only; phone support starts on Professional.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb, Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android, so it's on everything. But QuickBooks Online is the one integration listed and no API is on record, so it can't reach an A.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.2

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Stamps.com is for

  • Great if your office sends Certified or Registered Mail every week
  • Handy when you mail letters as well as parcels and want stamps from your own printer
  • Good for organisations replacing a postage meter across a couple of offices

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you sell online and want orders pulled in from your store, as no store links are listed
  • Tight if you stay on Basic, which allows 10 labels and 25 stamps a month
  • Not for you if you ship from outside the continental US, where the advertised discounts don't apply

Good to know

Good for

  • Law, accounting and insurance offices that send Certified Mail
  • Small businesses that mail letters as well as ship parcels
  • Organizations replacing a postage meter across several offices

Worth knowing

  • Basic allows only 25 stamps and 10 labels a month and has no live support; Professional removes the caps.
  • Postage, insurance and special services are charged on top of the monthly fee.
  • The advertised discounts (up to 90% off on the pricing page) apply only to shipments from the continental US.
  • Multi-Location has a listed starting price but is bought by contacting sales.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Stamps.com you would be making discounted carrier rates and labels, which take an agreement with each carrier. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 7 of the 10 other shipping software grade higher. It costs $179.88 a year.

What you could make

  • Reports: an app builder makes this well.

What you could not

  • Discounted carrier rates and labels, which take an agreement with each carrier.
  • Apps for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.

What this rests on. Stamps.com’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
