Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.0

GPA, above 0 of the 33 other team communication apps we grade

Steady is an async coordination tool from the makers of Status Hero. Team members, and AI agents added as teammates, post short check-ins on plans and progress, and Steady combines them with activity from connected tools such as GitHub and Jira into goal updates and a personal daily digest. It is priced by usage credits instead of seats, with unlimited users and every feature included.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Steady, taken from its own pages and our grades.

  1. 1

Best for keeping several teams lined up on shared goals

There's no free plan, deliveries stop when credits run out, and phones get a web app only.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $25 a month

As its pricing page puts it: $25 per month for 500 credits, with unlimited users.

  3. 3

    You can try it first

Free starting credits plus 100 credits for each user added; a credit subscription is needed once they run out

  4. 4

    It runs on 3 platforms

    Web, macOS and Windows.

  5. 5

    Smart Check-ins

Teammates share plans and progress on the days their team chooses, with AI drafts and reminders, and work from connected apps is attached automatically.

  6. 6

    Goal Stories

Each goal gets a running record of who is doing what and where things stand, and goal updates are delivered to the people following it.

  7. 7

    Daily Digest

A personalized digest of check-ins, goal updates and activity, delivered where people work: Slack, Microsoft Teams, email or the Steady apps.

  8. 8

    A 2.0 GPA, above 0 of 33

That is against the other team communication apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  9. 9

    Keep it

To replace Steady you would be making an AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for keeping several teams lined up on shared goals

Steady swaps status meetings for short written check-ins, mixes them with activity from tools like GitHub and Jira and sends everyone a daily digest, and AI agents can check in like teammates. You buy credits, not seats, from $25 a month for 500, and each delivery spends a credit per recipient, so a team of eight checking in daily needs roughly a $100 pack. There's no free plan, deliveries stop when credits run out, and phones get a web app only.

ToolGPA report cardSteadyGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyDThe smallest pack is $25 a month for 500 credits, and credits burn per recipient: one check-in sent to 5 people costs 5. A team of eight checking in daily chews through roughly a $100 pack. Against Geekbot at $2.50 a head and Dailybot at $2.40, that's the dear way to do standups.
Free plan and trialCNo free plan. You get some starting credits plus 100 more for each person you add, then a credit subscription is required. When credits run out deliveries stop, though it keeps collecting updates for 7 days.
FeaturesCFor its own job it covers check-ins with AI drafts and work attached from GitHub or Jira, Goal Stories keeping a running record per goal, a personal daily digest, Echoes answering a standing question on a schedule, and AI agents checking in like teammates. That job is a slice of this category, not the whole of it.
Ease of useCNo rating on record. There's the usual setting up, connecting tools and choosing check-in days and goals, and then the credits to get your head round: what each delivery costs and how many you'll need in a month.
Platforms and integrationsBNative apps for Mac and Windows plus the web, and on iPhone and Android it's a progressive web app rather than a real one. Slack, Microsoft Teams, GitHub, Jira, Linear, Asana, Google Calendar and Zoom connect, with an MCP server, a REST API and a CLI behind them.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.0

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Steady is for

  • Fits if your distributed team wants written updates in place of daily standups
  • Works for teams that run AI coding agents and want them reporting next to people

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you want a bill you can predict per seat: each check-in costs a credit per recipient, and Goal Story and Echo posts cost 5
  • Pricey if you just want standups, as eight people checking in daily need roughly $100 a month, against $2.50 a head for Geekbot
  • Not for you if you want a chat app, as it delivers into Slack, Microsoft Teams or email
  • Tight if credits run low, since deliveries stop until you add more, though updates are kept for 7 days
  • Watch out: there's no free plan and no native phone app, as iPhone and Android get a progressive web app

Good to know

Good for

  • Distributed teams replacing daily standups and status meetings with written updates
  • Organizations coordinating several teams around shared goals
  • Teams that run AI coding agents and want them reporting alongside people

Worth knowing

  • Cost follows usage: a check-in delivered to 5 people spends 5 credits, and Goal Story updates and Echo answers cost 5 credits per recipient.
  • When credits run out Steady stops deliveries until more are added, though it keeps collecting updates for 7 days.
  • On iOS and Android Steady runs as a progressive web app; the native apps are for Mac and Windows only.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Steady you would be making an AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 32 of the 33 other team communication apps grade higher. It costs $300 a year.

What you could make

  • Goals and reports: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • An AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it.
  • A real app for macOS and Windows. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • It plugs into other products, Slack, Microsoft Teams and GitHub among them, and has an API.
  • What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: single sign-on, SCIM and SOC 2.

What this rests on. Steady’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
