Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.6

GPA, above 13 of the 30 other whiteboard and mind map tools we grade

Stormboard is a sticky-note-based digital whiteboard for meetings, workshops and planning. Work happens in shared workspaces called Storms, where notes are sorted into template sections, voted on and turned into tasks, and a finished Storm can be exported as an editable Word, PowerPoint, Excel or Google document. Two-way integrations with Jira, Rally and Azure DevOps are aimed at agile planning, and the StormAI assistant is aimed at Enterprise customers.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Stormboard, taken from its own pages and our grades.

The free plan at least needs no credit card, so you can poke at it before deciding.
From our grade for ease of use
  1. 1

Best for workshops that have to end in a written report

Stormboard is a sticky-note whiteboard whose finished board exports as an editable Word, PowerPoint or Excel report, and it syncs two ways with Jira, Rally and Azure DevOps.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $8.33 a month for each person

As its pricing page puts it: $8.33 per user / month, billed annually ($100 a year).

  3. 3

    There is a free plan

Personal plan: 5 open Storms with up to 5 users in each, pre-made templates, basic reports and exports, and view-only Microsoft Office and Google Drive files. No credit card is needed.

  4. 4

    It runs on 4 platforms

    Web, Windows, iOS and Android.

  5. 5

    Storms built from sticky notes

A workspace, called a Storm, holds text, image, video, file and whiteboard sticky notes on an infinite canvas divided into sections. Index card notes open a Substorm on paid plans.

  6. 6

    Templates and section types

More than 250 templates are included. On Business and Enterprise, a section can become a calendar, spreadsheet or matrix, and customized templates can be saved for reuse.

  7. 7

    Reports and exports

A Storm exports as an editable Word, PowerPoint or Excel report, or as Google Docs, Slides or Sheets. These need Business; Personal has word cloud, votes and tasks exports.

  8. 8

The report card

Best for workshops that have to end in a written report

Stormboard is a sticky-note whiteboard whose finished board exports as an editable Word, PowerPoint or Excel report, and it syncs two ways with Jira, Rally and Azure DevOps. Those reports need Business at $8.33 a user a month billed annually. The free plan stops at 5 open Storms of 5 users, the trial needs a card, there's no Mac app, and StormAI is aimed at Enterprise.

ToolGPA report cardStormboardGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCBusiness is $8.33 a user a month billed annually ($100 a year), or $10 monthly, which is the exact middle of this category. Annual subscriptions are non-refundable and skip the free trial, and StormAI on Business is a 30-day trial before an Enterprise upgrade.
Free plan and trialCPersonal is free with no credit card, with pre-made templates, voting, tasks and a timer. But 5 open Storms of 5 users each is a cap you'll hit, Office and Google files are view-only, and the Word, PowerPoint and Excel reports are left out.
FeaturesBText, image, video, file and whiteboard sticky notes sorted into template sections, with voting, comments, tasks and a timer, and more than 250 templates. A Storm exports as an editable Word, PowerPoint, Excel or Google report, and changes mirror back to Jira, Rally and Azure DevOps.
Ease of useCNo store rating on record, and the work here is building the board itself: sections to lay out, notes to sort, a template to pick from more than 250. The free plan at least needs no credit card, so you can poke at it before deciding.
Platforms and integrationsAWeb, Windows, iOS and Android, with Jira, Azure DevOps, Rally, Microsoft Teams, Slack, Zoom, Google Drive and Zapier hooked in. There's no Mac app, and Stormboard itself calls the phone app a companion with limited features.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.6

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Stormboard is for

  • Fits if your workshops need to end in a written report people can edit
  • Works for sprint planning in Jira, Rally or Azure DevOps with changes synced back

Who it is not for

  • Tight if you're staying free, with 5 open Storms of 5 users and view-only Office and Google files
  • Skip it if you want the AI on a regular plan, as StormAI on Business is a 30-day trial before an Enterprise upgrade
  • Not for you if you want a desktop app on a Mac, because only a Windows one is listed
  • Watch out: the 30-day trial needs a card and covers monthly plans only, and annual plans aren't refundable
  • Too light for work on a phone, as the vendor calls its phone app a companion with limited features

Good to know

Good for

  • Facilitated workshops that need to end in a written report
  • Agile teams planning with Jira, Rally or Azure DevOps
  • Teams that co-edit Office or Google files inside a board
  • Small groups: the free plan allows 5 users in each Storm

Worth knowing

  • The Personal plan allows 5 open Storms with 5 users each, and Microsoft Office and Google Drive files are view-only on it.
  • Substorms, idea grouping, folders, and the Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Google reports all need the Business plan.
  • SAML single sign-on, audit logs and the Surface Hub app are Enterprise-only, and StormAI on Business is a 30-day trial before an Enterprise upgrade.
  • The vendor lists apps for Windows, iOS and Android but no Mac app, and describes the phone app as a companion with limited features.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

The plain part of Stormboard you could make: templates, reports and tasks. What surrounds it you could not. The 6 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

It costs $99.96 a year.

What you could make

  • Templates, reports and tasks: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • An endless canvas that stays smooth with hundreds of things on it.
  • Apps for Windows, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
  • Several people working in it at the same moment.
  • It plugs into other products, Jira, Azure DevOps and Rally among them, and has an API.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Stormboard’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
