Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

1.8

GPA, above 1 of the 147 other note-taking apps we grade

Talknotes records spoken thoughts, meetings or uploaded audio, transcribes them, and rewrites the result in a chosen style such as a short note, task list, email or blog post. It runs in the browser and as iOS and Android apps, and supports more than 50 languages. Notes can be edited, tagged, exported as PDF, text or Markdown, shared by link, or sent to other apps through Zapier and webhooks.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Talknotes, taken from its own pages and our grades.

  1. 1

Best for turning rambling voice notes into tidy text

If you only want the odd voice memo typed up, look elsewhere.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $16.42 a month when paid by the year

As its pricing page puts it: $197 per year (shown as $16 / month, billed annually).

  3. 3

    You can try it first

7-day free trial on both the monthly and the yearly plan.

  4. 4

    It runs on 3 platforms

    Web, iOS and Android.

  5. 5

    One-button recording

A single button starts a recording in the web app or the mobile apps, and recording carries on in the background while other things are open.

  6. 6

    Premade and custom styles

More than 100 premade styles shape the output as a note, task list, journal entry, email, blog post, video script or social post, and custom styles follow your own instructions.

  7. 7

    Transcription in 50+ languages

Recordings are transcribed in more than 50 languages, with an automatic language option, and both the note and its transcript can be edited afterward.

  8. 8

    A 1.8 GPA, above 1 of 147

That is against the other note-taking apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  9. 9

    Keep it

To replace Talknotes you would be making a bot that joins your calls and turns the talk into notes. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for turning rambling voice notes into tidy text

Talknotes records you talking and rewrites the transcript as a note, task list, email or blog post, in more than 50 languages. There's no free plan: after a 7-day trial it's $19.97 a month or $197 a year, all sales are final, it needs a connection, unlimited use sits under a fair usage policy, and there's no native desktop app. If you only want the odd voice memo typed up, look elsewhere.

ToolGPA report cardTalknotesGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyD$197 a year, which it shows as $16 a month, or $19.97 if you pay monthly. Note apps here start at $6 a month in the middle of the pack and the dearest tenth begins at $9.99, so this sits well past that. Everything's included, mind, but unlimited comes with a fair usage policy.
Free plan and trialDNothing free to keep. There's a 7-day trial on both plans, the listing doesn't show it as card-free, and the terms say all sales are final. You get a week, then you're paying.
FeaturesCIt covers the talking-to-text job: one button to record, over 100 premade styles for the output, custom styles, uploaded audio, exports to PDF, text or Markdown. That's a smaller job than a note app, though, and the FAQ mentions credits for notes over 20 minutes on a Pro plan the pricing page never lists.
Ease of useCNo rating on record. It's one button and recording keeps going in the background, but you're signing up for an account and a subscription before the trial's out, and you need a connection every time.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb, iPhone and Android, with Zapier and webhooks to pass notes on. There's no real desktop app: on a computer you install it out of Chrome as a web app, and Safari and Firefox won't do it.
Grade point averageWeak, out of 4.01.8

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Talknotes is for

  • Fits if you'd rather talk through an email or a post than type it
  • Works for turning recorded meetings, interviews or lectures into summaries

Who it is not for

  • Pricey if you only want the odd voice memo typed up, at $197 a year or $19.97 a month
  • Skip it if you want a free plan, because there's only a 7-day trial and the terms say all sales are final
  • Not for you if you record where there's no signal, since it needs an internet connection
  • Watch out: unlimited use is under a fair usage policy, and the FAQ mentions credits on a Pro plan the pricing page doesn't list
  • Tight if you work in Safari or Firefox on a computer, as the only desktop install is a Chrome web app

Good to know

Good for

  • Drafting emails, posts and articles by talking
  • Turning recorded meetings, interviews or lectures into summaries
  • People who want one voice-notes account on web, iPhone and Android

Worth knowing

  • The pricing page lists no free plan: after a 7-day trial it costs $19.97 a month or $197 a year, and the terms say all sales are final.
  • An internet connection is required, and unlimited usage is subject to a fair usage policy in the terms.
  • The FAQ says notes longer than 20 minutes use credits on a Pro plan, which the pricing page does not list or explain.
  • There is no native desktop app: on a computer it is installed from Chrome as a web app, and Safari and Firefox are not supported for that.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Talknotes you would be making a bot that joins your calls and turns the talk into notes. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 144 of the 147 other note-taking apps grade higher. It costs $197 a year.

What you could make

  • Notes and templates: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • A bot that joins your calls and turns the talk into notes.
  • Speech turned into text you can trust.
  • A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.

What this rests on. Talknotes’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
