Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
3.2
GPA, above 66 of the 74 other calendar and scheduling apps we grade
TimeTree is a shared calendar app for iPhone, Android and the web, made by TimeTree, Inc. in Tokyo. Each group, such as a family, a couple or a team, gets its own calendar where members add events, chat inside them and keep shared memos and to-do lists. The app is free with ads; TimeTree Premium removes the ads and adds file attachments, a vertical hour-by-hour view and event priority.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about TimeTree, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Make a calendar, invite people, and everyone sees the same schedule.

The report card
Best for one shared calendar for a family or couple
TimeTree is a shared calendar for families, couples and groups, and every event has its own chat, so "who's picking up the kids?" gets settled where the plan lives. Free keeps as many calendars as you need. But the free version shows ads, removing them takes Premium at $4.49 a month, file attachments and the hour-by-hour view are paid, Google Calendar is the only sync, and there's no desktop app.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | B | Premium is $44.99 a year, which works out at $3.75 a month and puts it in the cheaper quarter of calendar tools, or $4.49 if you pay monthly. It takes the ads away and adds file attachments, an hour-by-hour view of up to 3 days and event priority. The first month is free. |
| Free plan and trial | B | Shared calendars, chat and photos inside events, memos and to-do lists are all free, with no cap on how many calendars you keep. A family could really live on that. The ads are the price, and they only go away on Premium. |
| Features | B | A calendar per group, a conversation inside every event, shared memos and to-do lists, and filters to see family, school and hobbies together or apart. That covers the shared-calendar job, though file attachments and the hour-by-hour view are Premium and Google Calendar is the only sync named. |
| Ease of use | A | 4.85 from about 92,000 App Store ratings. Make a calendar, invite people, and everyone sees the same schedule. You can copy in events from the calendars already on your phone to get going. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | iPhone, Android, Apple Watch and the web, but there's no desktop app and Google Calendar is the only integration on record, with no API. Computers get the web version. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who TimeTree is for
- Fits if your family or partner needs one schedule everybody can see and add to
- Works for groups whose plans need talking over, since each event has its own chat
Who it is not for
- Skip it if ads in your calendar bother you, as removing them takes Premium at $4.49 a month
- Not for you if you want a desktop app, because computers get the web version only
- Tight if you plan your day hour by hour, since that view is Premium and shows up to 3 days
- Tight if you attach PDFs or other files to events, which is Premium only
- Watch out: Google Calendar is the only sync on record, and Premium prices vary by region
Good to know
Good for
- Families and couples keeping one shared schedule
- Groups that want to discuss a plan inside the event itself
- Artists, stores and local governments publishing event dates to followers
Worth knowing
- The free version shows ads; removing them requires Premium.
- Attaching PDFs and other files, the vertical hour-by-hour view and event priority are Premium-only.
- TimeTree notes that Premium pricing varies by region and currency and points buyers to the App Store or Google Play for the exact price.
- The App Store listing covers iPhone, Apple Watch and Apple Vision; computers use the web version rather than a desktop app.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of TimeTree you could make: calendar, tasks and notes. What surrounds it you could not. The 3 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 3.2 is higher than 66 of the 74 other calendar and scheduling apps we grade. It costs $44.99 a year.
What you could make
- Calendar, tasks and notes: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. TimeTree’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
