What is TypingMind?

TypingMind is a web-based chat interface for large language models that works with your own API keys for OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and other providers, so usage is paid per token to each provider. It adds chat organization, a prompt library, configurable AI agents, plugins, MCP connectors and a document knowledge base. The app is free with basic features, and the rest is unlocked by a one-time license instead of a subscription.

TypingMind has a free plan. Paid plans start at $39 one-time (Standard lifetime license). See every plan

Good for

  • People who would sooner pay per token through their own API keys
  • Buyers who want a one-time license instead of a monthly subscription
  • Comparing models from several providers in one interface

Worth knowing

  • License prices do not include API costs: you need your own key from each AI provider and pay that provider for usage.
  • Without a license, chat history is not saved and a popup appears every few minutes.
  • There are no native apps; it runs in a browser and installs as a PWA. Each license key works on up to 5 devices.
  • TypingMind Cloud sync is not included with a license, and team workspaces are a separate product that the docs list from $99 per month for 5 seats.

Plugins and MCP connectors
A plugin marketplace, custom JavaScript plugins and MCP servers add tools such as web search, image generation and deep research.
Knowledge base and documents
Upload PDF, Word, Excel and Markdown files to a chat, or connect uploaded files, GitHub, Google Drive, Notion and scraped web pages as a knowledge base.
Local storage with optional sync
