Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 4 of the 10 other QR code generators we grade
Uniqode, formerly Beaconstac, makes dynamic QR codes whose destination can be changed after printing, with scan analytics, landing pages and forms behind them. Higher plans add rules that send a scan to different content by device, place or time, team roles, SSO and an API. The same account also makes digital business cards, shared by QR code, link or phone wallet.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Uniqode, taken from its own pages and our grades.
It's an account with codes, landing pages and forms to build, and a scan allowance to watch, since it only resets once a year.
- 1
Best for dynamic codes and digital business cards in one account
Uniqode, once called Beaconstac, makes QR codes you can repoint after printing, plus digital business cards, and from Core one code can send people to different pages by device, place or time.
- 2
Paid plans start at $9 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $9 per month, billed annually (Essential).
- 3
There is a free plan
Static QR codes are free with no limit on how many you make, and one digital business card is free. Editable, trackable dynamic codes need a paid plan.
- 4
It runs on 2 platforms
Web and iOS.
- 5
Dynamic QR codes
Change where a code leads after it is printed. More than 15 code types cover websites, PDFs, locations, menus, app downloads and contact cards.
- 6
Smart Rules and location routing
From Core, one code can send people to different content by device, language, day or time, or location, and codes can be password-protected or age-gated.
- 7
Scan analytics
Every plan counts scans. Core adds time of day, device, city and GPS location, plus CSV export. Scan history runs from 60 days on Essential to lifetime on Business+.
- 8
A 2.4 GPA, above 4 of 10
That is against the other QR code generators we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

The report card
Best for dynamic codes and digital business cards in one account
Uniqode, once called Beaconstac, makes QR codes you can repoint after printing, plus digital business cards, and from Core one code can send people to different pages by device, place or time. Every plan is billed yearly, Essential's $9 a month covers one user and 15 codes, integrations and the API wait for Core at $49, and if the plan lapses your printed codes stop working.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Essential is $9 a month billed yearly, the middle of what QR code tools charge, for 15 dynamic codes and 50,000 scans a year. There's no monthly option, and integrations, the API and routing rules need Core at $49 a month. |
| Free plan and trial | C | Static codes are free with no cap, and so is one digital business card, but static codes can't be edited or tracked. Dynamic codes need a plan, and the ones made in the 14-day trial stop working if you don't upgrade. |
| Features | B | Dynamic codes in more than 15 types, scan analytics, Linkpages, forms, bulk creation, an API, roles and SSO, plus business cards for Apple and Google Wallet. Nothing in the core job is missing; the limits are in which plan you're on. |
| Ease of use | C | No rating on record. It's an account with codes, landing pages and forms to build, and a scan allowance to watch, since it only resets once a year. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web and iPhone apps for cards and codes, with Zapier, Make, Workato, Google Sheets, Slack and Canva, and an API from Core. No Android or desktop app. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Uniqode is for
- Fits if you print codes on packaging or signs and need to change where they lead later
- Works for companies that want QR codes and staff business cards in the same account
Who it is not for
- Watch out: every plan is billed yearly, and going past your yearly scan allowance means moving up a plan
- Skip it if you might stop paying, since dynamic codes stop redirecting when the plan or the trial ends
- Pricey if you need integrations or the API, which start on Core at $49 a month, or retargeting, which needs Business+ at $399
- Tight if more than one person makes codes: Essential and Core have one user, and Plus is $99 a month for three
- Watch out: a custom domain is a $500-a-year Plus add-on in the plan table but $2,000 a domain in the pricing FAQ
Good to know
Good for
- Marketing teams putting editable codes on packaging, print and signage
- Brands that want one code to show different content by place or device
- Companies that need SSO, roles and separate workspaces for teams
Worth knowing
- Plans are billed yearly only. Scan allowances reset once a year, and going over means moving to a higher plan.
- Dynamic codes stop redirecting if the subscription or the free trial ends without an upgrade.
- Essential and Core have one user. Integrations and the API start on Core; Meta Pixel and Google Ads retargeting need Business+.
- A custom domain is a Plus add-on at $500 a year in the plan table, while the pricing FAQ gives $2,000 per domain a year.

It stands best on features (B, above 6 of 10) and worst on free plan and trial (C, above 0).

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of Uniqode you could make: qR codes, digital business card and forms. What surrounds it you could not. The 5 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
It costs $108 a year.
What you could make
- QR codes, digital business card and forms: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A real app for iOS. Something home-made would be a web page.
- It plugs into other products, Zapier, Make and Workato among them, and has an API.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: single sign-on.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Uniqode’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
