Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 8 of the 26 other AI app builders we grade
Vibecode builds mobile and web apps from natural-language prompts, in the browser or from its own iOS and Android apps. Each project is a native Swift app for iPhone and iPad, a React Native app for iOS and Android, or a web app. Paid plans include a monthly dollar amount of credits that Vibecode says is charged at the AI providers' own rates, and add App Store submission and a built-in backend, with source code download from Pro.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Vibecode, taken from its own pages and our grades.
- 1
Best for building a real iPhone app without owning a Mac
Vibecode builds phone apps from prompts, and you can do it from your phone: a native Swift app for iPhone, a React Native one for both phones, or a web app, compiled on cloud Macs so you never open Xcode.
- 2
Paid plans start at $16.67 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $16.67 per month, billed annually ($200); $20 billed monthly (Plus).
- 3
You can try it first
Free plan: the first app build on a new account is free. No credits are added, so building further needs a paid plan or auto-reload.
- 4
It runs on 3 platforms
Web, iOS and Android.
- 5
Swift, React Native or web projects
Each project is a native Swift and SwiftUI app for iPhone and iPad, a React Native and Expo app for iOS and Android, or a web app, chosen when the project is created.
- 6
Build from a phone or a browser
Apps are built by prompting in the iOS or Android app or on the web. Native iOS projects compile on cloud Macs and stream from a cloud simulator, so no Mac is needed.
- 7
Vibecode Cloud backend
A single prompt adds a database, authentication and file storage. Vibecode Cloud is available on Plus and above, and Supabase or Firebase can be connected instead.
- 8
A 2.4 GPA, above 8 of 26
That is against the other AI app builders we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
To replace Vibecode you would be making a tool that builds and hosts other apps. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for building a real iPhone app without owning a Mac
Vibecode builds phone apps from prompts, and you can do it from your phone: a native Swift app for iPhone, a React Native one for both phones, or a web app, compiled on cloud Macs so you never open Xcode. Plus is $16.67 a month on the yearly plan. But free stops at your first app build, source code needs Pro at $50, and Vibecode says its tiers are experimental and may change.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Plus is $200 a year, which is $16.67 a month, or $20 monthly, a shade above the cheapest quarter for builders here. It's $20 of credits a month charged at the AI providers' own rates with no markup, rolling over while the plan runs. Code download and SSH need Pro at $50. |
| Free plan and trial | C | The first app build on a new account is free, and that's the whole offer. No credits are added, so anything after it needs a paid plan or auto-reload, and the free tier has no database, no auth, no App Store submission and no code download. One look, not a plan. |
| Features | C | Native Swift and SwiftUI for iPhone and iPad, React Native for both phones, or a web app; one prompt adds a database, logins and file storage; and a wizard builds, signs and uploads to the App Store with no Xcode. But the listing names the catch: native projects are Apple-only, and Android means React Native. |
| Ease of use | B | 4.65 from about 3,300 App Store ratings, just under the 4.7 an A wants. You can prompt from your phone, and iOS projects compile on cloud Macs and stream from a cloud simulator, so there's no Mac and no Xcode to set up. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | You build on the web, iPhone or Android, but there's no desktop app and that's what holds it to a B. It connects to RevenueCat, Stripe, Supabase, Firebase, Expo, OpenAI and Anthropic, and Pro adds SSH into Cursor. A native Swift project runs on Apple devices only. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Vibecode is for
- Fits if you want an iPhone app in the App Store and don't own a Mac
- Works for people who want to build from their phone, not only at a desk
Who it is not for
- Tight if you're staying free, since only the first app build is free and no credits come with it
- Pricey if you want your source code, because download and SSH start with Pro at $50 a month
- Skip it if you need settled pricing, as Vibecode calls its tiers experimental and says limits may change at any time
- Watch out: native Swift projects run on Apple devices only, so Android means starting a React Native project
- Not for you if you want a desktop app to build in, as it runs on the web, iPhone and Android
Good to know
Good for
- Building an iPhone app from a phone or browser without owning a Mac
- People who want a native Swift codebase for iOS
- Makers who want AI usage billed at provider rates
Worth knowing
- The Free plan covers only the first app build on a new account and adds no credits; it excludes database and auth, App Store submission and code download.
- Downloading source code and SSH access need Pro at $50 a month or Max.
- Native Swift projects run on Apple devices only; reaching Android needs a React Native project.
- Vibecode calls its pricing tiers experimental and says tier limits may change at any time.

- Wholesale credit pricing
- Vibecode states that $1 of credits buys $1 of AI usage at the providers' rates, with no markup. Unused credits roll over while a plan is active.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Vibecode you would be making a tool that builds and hosts other apps. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 12 of the 26 other AI app builders grade higher. It costs $200.04 a year.
What you could not
- A tool that builds and hosts other apps.
- A builder that other people can use without writing code.
- An AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it.
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- It plugs into other products, RevenueCat, Stripe and Supabase among them.
What this rests on. Vibecode’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
