Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.6
GPA, above 30 of the 74 other calendar and scheduling apps we grade
WeekCal, listed in the app stores as Week Calendar - Smart Planner, is a calendar app for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac and Android run by Maple Media. It shows the calendars already synced to the device, such as iCloud, Google, Exchange and Outlook, and adds event templates, rules that color events automatically, and drag, copy and paste for rescheduling. The app is free to download, and a WeekCal Pro subscription unlocks all views, widgets and other extras.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about WeekCal, taken from its own pages and our grades.
No store rating on record, but it shows the calendars already synced to your device, so there's no account to make and nothing to move over.
- 1
Best for bending your phone's calendar to your own rules
WeekCal sits on top of the calendars already on your phone and adds templates for events you enter often, rules that color things for you, and drag, copy and paste.
- 2
Paid plans start at $0.62 a month when paid by the year
As its pricing page puts it: $7.49 to $39.99 per year for Annual Pro, as listed on the App Store.
- 3
There is a free plan
Free download with in-app purchases. The store listing does not say which views stay free; widgets, the Reminders view, the Join Meeting button and full Popular Calendars are described as Pro features.
- 4
It runs on 3 platforms
iOS, macOS and Android.
- 5
Day, agenda, month and year views
Events can be viewed by day, week, agenda, mini month, month or year, with color schemes and Dark Mode. Access to all views is part of WeekCal Pro.
- 6
Event templates and rules
Often-used events can be saved as templates, and rules assign colors or emojis to events automatically, for example by title or location.
- 7
Drag, copy and paste
Appointments are moved by dragging and can be copied and pasted, and batch operations change several events at once. Tap and hold adds an event at that time.
- 8
A 2.6 GPA, above 30 of 74
That is against the other calendar and scheduling apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

The report card
Best for bending your phone's calendar to your own rules
WeekCal sits on top of the calendars already on your phone and adds templates for events you enter often, rules that color things for you, and drag, copy and paste. But it keeps no calendar of its own, all views and widgets are Pro, the App Store lists Pro at four prices while the vendor's site gives none, Android gets a shorter feature list, and there's no web or Windows version.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | B | The App Store lists the Annual Pro Subscription at $7.49, $12.99, $19.99 and $39.99 a year. Even the dearest is $3.33 a month, inside the cheaper quarter of calendar tools. But the vendor's site gives no price, so you only learn what you'll be charged inside the app. |
| Free plan and trial | C | It's a free download, but all views, widgets, the Reminders view, the Join Meeting button and full Popular Calendars are Pro, and the store listing never says what is left. A calendar whose views are paid is a cap you hit on the first screen. |
| Features | C | Event templates, rules that color or tag events by title or location, batch changes, and day, agenda, month and year views. It keeps no calendar of its own, and the listing's own gap is Android: Google Play describes a shorter feature list than the App Store does. |
| Ease of use | B | No store rating on record, but it shows the calendars already synced to your device, so there's no account to make and nothing to move over. Tap and hold on the grid to add an event. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac and Android, working with iCloud, Google Calendar, Yahoo, Outlook, Exchange, CalDAV and ICS calendars. No web or Windows version is listed, and no API. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who WeekCal is for
- Fits if you're on iPhone or iPad and want more control than the built-in calendar gives
- Works for people who enter the same kinds of events again and again and want templates
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want to know the price before you download, as it's only confirmed in the app
- Tight if you're staying free, because all views, widgets and the Reminders view are Pro
- Not for you if you want it in a browser or on Windows, since neither is listed
- Watch out: Android gets a shorter feature list on Google Play than iPhone does on the App Store
- Pricey if you want weather in the calendar, a separate add-on, or $39.99 a year bundled with Pro
Good to know
Good for
- iPhone and iPad users who want more control than the built-in calendar gives
- People who enter the same kinds of events often and want templates
- Color-coding a busy schedule automatically with rules
Worth knowing
- The App Store lists the Annual Pro Subscription at four prices from $7.49 to $39.99, and the vendor's site gives none, so the price charged is confirmed only in the app.
- All views, widgets, the Reminders view, the Join Meeting button and full Popular Calendars need a Pro subscription.
- The Google Play listing describes a shorter feature list for Android than the App Store listing does for iOS.
- No web or Windows version is listed.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of WeekCal you could make: calendar, templates and tasks. What surrounds it you could not. The 4 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
It costs $7.49 a year.
What you could make
- Calendar, templates and tasks: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- Apps for macOS, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
- It plugs into other products, iCloud, Google Calendar and Yahoo Calendar among them.
- Hooks into the device itself: an Apple Watch app, widgets and the lock screen.
- Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
What this rests on. WeekCal’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
