Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.2
GPA, above 1 of the 10 other online fax services we grade
WiseFax is a pay-as-you-go online fax service from Vanaia. You upload a document, pick the recipient's country and pay for the fax with tokens, usually one per page, without a monthly plan. A separate subscription adds a US or Canadian fax number for receiving, and apps and add-ons cover phones, desktops, browsers, Gmail, Google Docs and Microsoft Word.
To get you started, here are 8 things to know about WiseFax, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Sending needs no plan or account setup: you upload, pick the country, see the price and confirm.
- 1
Best for the odd fax without a monthly plan
There's nothing free to try, numbers come from two countries only, and at a dollar a page, regular sending costs far more than a plan.
- 2
Paid plans start at $8 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $8.00 per month for a fax number.
- 3
It runs on 5 platforms
Web, Windows, macOS, iOS and Android, with a browser extension too.
- 4
Pay per fax with tokens
Sending needs no account setup or plan: the price is shown before you confirm, and you pay only for faxes that go through.
- 5
Own number or ported number
A subscription gives you a US or Canadian fax number at once, or you can port your current number with a signed port order and a fee.
- 6
Edit, sign and fill in
Fill in forms with text, add up to three saved signatures, mark up, erase or redact, crop and clean up photographed pages, and add a cover page before sending.
- 7
A 2.2 GPA, above 1 of 10
That is against the other online fax services we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 8
Keep it
To replace WiseFax you would be making fax numbers connected to the phone network. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for the odd fax without a monthly plan
WiseFax lets you pay per fax with tokens, usually $1 a page, from apps and add-ons on most devices, and adds a US or Canadian number for $8 a month. There's nothing free to try, numbers come from two countries only, and at a dollar a page, regular sending costs far more than a plan.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | A number is $8 a month for up to 300 received pages and 10 send tokens, or $4.25 a week, in the middle of this category. Sending is $1 a token, usually one a page, against the 3 to 20 cents other services charge per page over a plan. |
| Free plan and trial | F | Nothing free: no free plan or trial is listed. You pay for each fax before it goes, and only for faxes that go through. |
| Features | C | Pay-per-fax sending, your own or a ported US or Canadian number, form filling, signatures, redaction, page clean-up, cover pages, email to fax and retries. The gaps: numbers in two countries only, and no API, team accounts or BAA on record. |
| Ease of use | B | No store rating on record. Sending needs no plan or account setup: you upload, pick the country, see the price and confirm. |
| Platforms and integrations | A | Windows, Mac, iPhone, Android and web, with Chrome, Edge and Firefox extensions and add-ons for Gmail, Google Docs, Drive, Office 365, Word, Box and Dropbox. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

- Pricey if you send often: tokens are $1 each, one a page for domestic faxes, and the number plan includes only 10 a month
- Not for you if you need a fax number outside the US or Canada
- Watch out: porting your number costs a fee the pricing page doesn't state
- Watch out: the weekly plan is $4.25 on one line of the pricing page and $4.24 on another

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace WiseFax you would be making fax numbers connected to the phone network. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 6 of the 10 other online fax services grade higher. It costs $96 a year.
What you could not
- Fax numbers connected to the phone network.
- Editing the text inside a PDF without breaking its layout.
- Apps for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
- It plugs into other products, Gmail, Google Docs and Google Drive among them.
What this rests on. WiseFax’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
