Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
1.8
GPA, above 4 of the 21 other web hosts we grade
WPX is an independent managed WordPress host founded in 2013 and operated by K Media Tech, LLC. Plans are priced by the number of sites, storage and bandwidth, with unlimited visitors, daily backups, malware scans with free cleanup and WPX's own XDN content delivery network. Its staff migrate sites by hand for free and carry out speed optimizations, and longer prepaid terms include free months.
To get you started, here are 8 things to know about WPX, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Staff handle migrations and speed work, which takes a lot off your plate, but you still run a WordPress site.
- 1
Best for managed WordPress with fixes done for you
The low rates need years paid upfront, though, and Starter has no email and runs on half a CPU core.
- 2
Paid plans start at $11.99 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $11.99 per month for 1 site, prepaid for 5 years ($17.99 billed monthly).
- 3
It runs on Web
Web.
- 4
WPX XDN
WPX runs its own content delivery network, the XDN, included free on every plan, with hybrid DDoS protection in front of its servers.
- 5
Malware scans and cleanups
Sites are scanned for malware every day and cleaned free, with a web application firewall, brute-force protection and two-factor login.
- 6
Manual migrations
Unlimited site migrations are done by WPX staff rather than a tool, usually within 24 hours, including debugging and malware cleanup.
- 7
A 1.8 GPA, above 4 of 21
That is against the other web hosts we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 8
Keep it
To replace WPX you would be making servers kept running, patched and backed up for you. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for managed WordPress with fixes done for you
WPX is the cheapest of the managed WordPress hosts here, and its staff do the fiddly work: they migrate sites by hand, clean up malware and tune sites for speed at no extra charge. The low rates need years paid upfront, though, and Starter has no email and runs on half a CPU core.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | B | Graded against the other managed WordPress hosts. Starter's 2-year term is $341.81 upfront, so two years cost about $14.24 a month, the cheapest of that group, though not by enough for an A. Monthly is $17.99. |
| Free plan and trial | F | No free plan and no trial on record. Prepaying earns free months, but that's a discount, not a way to try it. |
| Features | C | Its own XDN CDN, daily malware scans with free cleanup, a firewall, daily backups, and migrations and speed work done by staff. The gaps: Starter has no email and runs on half a CPU core and 3 GB of RAM, and staging isn't on record. |
| Ease of use | C | No app store rating to go on. Staff handle migrations and speed work, which takes a lot off your plate, but you still run a WordPress site. |
| Platforms and integrations | C | A web dashboard only, with WordPress and WooCommerce as the named integrations. No API is on record. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who WPX is for
- Great if you want migrations and fixes done by people, not tools
- Handy when you want email and hosting from one company on Business
- Good for buyers willing to prepay a few years for a lower rate
Who it is not for
- Not for you if you need email on the cheapest plan, as Starter has none
- Pricey if you pay monthly, at $17.99 against $11.99 on a 5-year prepay
- Too light for busy sites on Starter, which runs on half a CPU core
Good to know
Good for
- WordPress site owners who want migrations and fixes done for them
- Small businesses that want email and hosting from one provider
- Buyers willing to prepay several years for a lower monthly rate
Worth knowing
- Email at your domain needs the Business plan or higher; Starter has none.
- The lowest rates need years paid upfront: Starter is $11.99 a month only on a 5-year prepayment of $719.60.
- It hosts WordPress and WooCommerce only; agency and WooCommerce plans are sold on separate price lists.
- Starter runs on half a CPU core and 3 GB of RAM; more sites or resources need Business or Professional.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace WPX you would be making servers kept running, patched and backed up for you. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 15 of the 21 other web hosts grade higher. It costs $143.88 a year.
What you could not
- Servers kept running, patched and backed up for you.
- An engine that recognises new malware as it appears.
What this rests on. WPX’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
