Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.6

GPA, above 50 of the 147 other note-taking apps we grade

ZoomNotes is a handwriting, sketching and PDF annotation app for iPad, iPhone and Mac from Deliverance Software. It stands apart through a near-unlimited zoom range, pages nested inside pages, layers, and links between pages and documents, which also suit digital planners and presentations. It is sold as one-time purchases, with a free Lite version on iPhone and iPad that unlocks features through in-app purchases.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about ZoomNotes, taken from its own pages and our grades.

There's a lot in here to find your way around, and iCloud sync has to be switched on document by document.

The report card

Best for handwriting and planners with endless zoom

ZoomNotes is a handwriting and PDF app for iPhone and iPad with near-endless zoom, pages inside pages and linked planners, at $7.99 once. It's Apple only, the Mac app is a separate $6.99, and the free Lite version has a single pen, with the rest sold one by one. iCloud sync has to be switched on document by document.

ToolGPA report cardZoomNotesGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyA$7.99 once on the US App Store for iPhone and iPad, against $6 a month for the middle of this category, and Family Sharing covers six people. The Mac app is bought separately at $6.99, which still puts the pair under two months of a subscription.
Free plan and trialCZoomNotes Lite is free with unlimited zoom, PDF and Office markup, split screen, layers and iCloud, but you'll meet the wall quickly: one felt-tip pen, and more pens, images, sound, bookmarks and handwriting recognition are all in-app purchases. Lite is iPhone and iPad only.
FeaturesCFor handwriting it's complete, and handwriting is a narrower job than note-taking: eight pens, searchable handwriting that converts to text, writing over PDFs and Office files, pages inside pages, layers, links, planners that show your calendar, and recordings tied to your strokes. Sync is per document, by hand.
Ease of useB4.54 on the App Store from about 900 ratings, just under our line for an A. There's a lot in here to find your way around, and iCloud sync has to be switched on document by document.
Platforms and integrationsCApple only: iPad, iPhone and Mac, with no Android, Windows or web version listed. It connects to iCloud, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Box, Evernote and Apple Calendar and Reminders.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.6

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who ZoomNotes is for

  • Fits if you write small and dense and want to keep zooming in
  • Works for building or marking up a PDF planner if you'd rather pay $7.99 once than subscribe

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you use Android, Windows or the web, as it's Apple devices only
  • Pricey if you want it on a Mac too, since that's a separate $6.99 on top of the $7.99 app
  • Tight if you're staying on Lite, with one pen and the rest sold at $0.99 to $2.99 each
  • Not for you if you want sync that just happens, since each document is set to share one by one

Good to know

Good for

  • iPad users who want fine zoom control for dense notes or sketches
  • Building or annotating hyperlinked digital planners
  • People who prefer a low one-time price to a subscription

Worth knowing

  • The iPhone and iPad app and the Mac app are separate purchases, at $7.99 and $6.99 on the US stores.
  • ZoomNotes Lite has a single pen type; extra pens, sub-pages, images, sound, bookmarks and handwriting recognition are in-app purchases.
  • It is offered for iPad, iPhone and Mac only; no Android, Windows or web version is listed.
  • iCloud sync is elective: each document has to be set to share individually in its properties.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

The plain part of ZoomNotes you could make: notes and templates. What surrounds it you could not. The 4 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

It costs $7.99, paid once.

What you could make

  • Notes and templates: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • An endless canvas that stays smooth with hundreds of things on it.
  • Apps for macOS and iOS that stay in step with each other.
  • It plugs into other products, iCloud, Google Drive and Dropbox among them.
  • Hooks into the device itself: handwriting.

What this rests on. ZoomNotes’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
