How we grade them

3.0GPABrisqiVery good2.6GPAKan DoGood
Value for money
B$29.99 once for one computer, or $49.99 for three, with a year of updates. That's cheap for a desktop-only board. But sync and the phone apps are on Standard at $80 a user a year, which is well above what a typical to-do app charges.
A$2.99, one time, and that covers Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Vision Pro, Apple TV and Apple Watch. No subscription and no in-app purchases. Most paid to-do apps charge more than that every month.
Free plan and trial
BThe free desktop version asks for no card and no account, but it stops at 2 boards, 5 lists per board and 5 labels. Fine for one project. A second job or a house move and you've run out.
FNothing is free. It's a paid download with no free version and no trial. At $2.99 the risk is small, but you are buying it blind.
Features
BCards hold Markdown notes, subtasks, labels, due dates, comments and links to other cards, with a calendar and an upcoming panel. Solid for one person. The vendor says outright it isn't built for teams, and no integrations are listed.
ABoards with your own columns, Spaces, nested tags, smart lists and a Calendar view. Tasks take start dates, due dates, repeats and reminders that keep going until you're done. Each one has a notes editor with images, drawings and attachments.
Ease of use
BNo App Store rating is on record for it, so a B is as high as we go. You download it and make a board. No sign-up, and giving an email at download is optional.
BWe have no App Store rating on record, so a B is as high as we go. There's no account to make. Buy it, open it, and your boards sync through your own iCloud.
Platforms and integrations
BWindows, Mac and Linux desktops, plus iPhone and Android apps if you pay for Standard. No web version, no integrations and no API listed. The one-time licences cover offline desktop use only.
CApple only, and its FAQ says there's no web or Windows version. Inside that world it goes far: Siri, Shortcuts, and on the Mac a built-in MCP helper so assistants like Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor can read and manage your tasks.

  • The free version stops at 2 boards, 5 lists per board and 5 labels.
  • One-time licenses include 1 year of updates. The activated version keeps working after that, but later updates need a renewal.
  • Cloud sync and the iOS and Android apps need the Standard plan at $80 per user / year; the one-time licenses cover offline desktop use only.

Kan Do

  • Apple platforms only: the FAQ says there is no web or Windows version.
  • Boards cannot be shared with another person; sync runs only between one user's devices under a single Apple Account.
  • It is a paid download with no free version or trial.
  • Kan Do does not write tasks to the Calendar app, and Apple Reminders is the only app it imports from directly.

Key features

Brisqi

Boards, lists and cards
Boards are sorted into groups, and each card can hold a Markdown description, subtasks, comments, labels, a due date, a color and links to other cards.
Calendar and upcoming tasks panel
A monthly calendar shows cards by due date, and the upcoming tasks panel color-codes them by how close the deadline is.
Search, filters and list focus
Global search finds cards across boards, filters narrow a board by label or due date, and List Focus Mode dims every list except the one being worked on.
Offline local storage
The desktop app stores data on the computer and needs no internet connection or account. The vendor says it has no in-app monitoring or usage analytics.
Backups, CSV export and printing
Boards can be backed up to a folder of the user's choice, including one synced by Dropbox or Google Drive, and exported to CSV. Lists and cards can be printed.
Encrypted sync and mobile apps
The Standard subscription adds cloud sync that encrypts data on the device before it is uploaded, along with the iOS and Android apps.

Kan Do

Boards, columns and list view
Every project is a board of user-defined columns. Cards are dragged between columns, dividers split long columns into sections, and any project can switch to a list.
Spaces, projects and nested tags
Spaces group projects, each with its own icon and color, and tags can be nested to any depth to cut across projects.
Notes editor in every task
A task's note takes headings, lists, to-do checkboxes, quotes, code blocks, highlights, images, drawings and file attachments, which sync with the task.
Smart lists and Calendar view
Inbox, Today, Upcoming and Flagged collect tasks across projects, custom smart lists filter by tag, date, priority or project, and a built-in Calendar view shows tasks and subtasks.
Reminders that repeat until done
Tasks take start dates, due dates and repeats. Alert Until Done reminders recur every 30 minutes, hour, 3 hours or day, and can be snoozed from the notification.
Siri, Shortcuts and MCP connector
Siri and Shortcuts actions add, edit, find and complete tasks. On the Mac, a built-in MCP helper lets assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor read and manage tasks.
