DigiCal vs Jorte

DigiCal

• Android users who want more views and widgets than the stock calendar
• People who like weather forecasts next to their appointments
• Following sports, TV or holiday calendars inside the schedule

Jorte

• People moving from a paper planner who want a similar layout
• Keeping a schedule, to-do lists and a photo diary in one app
• Users who like to restyle their calendar with themes and icons

DigiCal

• Android only; no iOS, desktop or web version is listed.
• The free app contains ads. The year view, the two month widgets and the widget color picker need DigiCal+.
• The premium weather forecast is a separate yearly subscription, priced at €2.50 on the vendor's site, and is not included in DigiCal+.
• Google Play shows in-app purchases of $1.09 to $5.49 per item without naming them, and the site gives no price for calendar subscriptions.

Jorte

• The free app shows ads; turning them off requires Jorte Plus or Jorte Premium.
• Outlook sync is a paid feature and covers Office 365 Outlook calendars only. Office 365 Solo, Outlook.com calendars and Exchange servers are not supported.
• Icon and theme packs are separate in-app purchases unless you have Premium, which includes unlimited content.
• There is no desktop app: on a computer, Jorte is used through the Jorte PF web service.

DigiCal

Seven calendar views

Agenda, day, week, week agenda, month and text month views in light and dark themes. The seventh, a year view with a heat map of busy periods, is part of DigiCal+.

Six widget types

Agenda, day, day list and day grid widgets come with the free app, and DigiCal+ adds text month and month widgets. The site lists nine preset widget themes, and widgets can go on the lock screen.

Syncs with Android calendars

Works with every calendar server Android supports, including Google Calendar, Outlook.com and Exchange. A local calendar that does not sync is also available.

Built-in weather forecast

A free 3-day forecast appears in the calendar and widget views. The premium weather subscription extends it to 14 days with a graph and several saved locations.

Calendar subscriptions

A catalog of public holidays for more than 100 countries, sports fixtures, TV schedules, religious days and company events can be subscribed to and added to the schedule.

Location search and action bar

Typing a place name fills in the address and adds a map. Tapping an event opens an action bar to move, copy, edit or delete it, and notifications carry snooze and navigation shortcuts.

Jorte

Planner-style calendar views

Monthly, weekly, daily and vertical views modeled on paper organizers. The week can start on any day, and lunar dates and public holidays can be shown.

To-do lists and diary

To-do lists sit beside the calendar and can sync with Google Tasks. The diary records text and photos for each day and organizes entries with tags.

Themes and customization

Background images, icons, fonts and colors can all be changed, and purchased theme sets restyle the whole app at once while keeping your schedule.

Event calendars

Follow ready-made calendars such as weekly weather forecasts, national holidays, NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL games and religious calendars, and their events are added automatically.

Jorte PF cloud service

A free service that stores calendars and to-dos in the cloud so they can be viewed and edited from a computer, shared within a group or published.

Widgets and schedule sharing

Home screen widgets come in 25 sizes with adjustable content. An appointment can be turned into a URL and sent by email or messaging apps for others to add.
