Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.6
GPA, above 48 of the 123 other to-do list apps we grade
2Do is a personal task manager for macOS, iPhone, iPad and Android from the independent studio Beehive. A task can grow into a checklist or a project with sub-tasks, and work is organized with color-coded lists, tags, Smart Lists and location-based alerts. 2Do has no account of its own: devices sync through a service you pick, such as Dropbox, iCloud or another CalDAV server. The Apple apps are one-time purchases, and the Android app is a free download with paid unlocks.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about 2Do, taken from its own pages and our grades.
The app also takes learning: Smart Lists, tag groups and Focus all want setting up.
- 1
Best for a pay-once task manager, no subscription
2Do is a task manager you buy once, with projects, checklists and saved searches: $9.99 on iPhone, $19.99 on iPad, $49.99 on Mac.
- 2
What it costs
Paid plans start at $9.99 one-time for iPhone; iPad is $19.99 and Mac $49.99, sold separately.
- 3
There is a free plan
The Android app is a free, non-expiring download. Cloud sync, backups, alert notifications and Markdown notes are a 14-day trial there and need a one-time in-app purchase to keep.
- 4
It runs on 3 platforms
macOS, iOS and Android.
- 5
Tasks, checklists and projects
A simple task can be turned into a checklist and then into a project with sub-tasks. Color-coded lists and List Groups keep related work together.
- 6
Natural language entry
Dates, times, repeats, alerts, durations, priority, tags, lists and saved places typed into a task title are filled into their own fields, in ten languages.
- 7
Smart Lists, tags and Focus
Searches across titles, tags, notes and dates can be saved as Smart Lists. Tags can be grouped or paused to hide their tasks, and Focus narrows a list to chosen conditions.
- 8
A 2.6 GPA, above 48 of 123
That is against the other to-do list apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
The plain part of 2Do you could make: tasks, natural-language input, Markdown and calendar. What surrounds it you could not. The 5 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

The report card
Best for a pay-once task manager, no subscription
2Do is a task manager you buy once, with projects, checklists and saved searches: $9.99 on iPhone, $19.99 on iPad, $49.99 on Mac. There's no 2Do account, so you set up sync yourself through Dropbox, iCloud or a CalDAV server. Every device is a separate purchase, the Mac license covers 18 months of updates, and there's no Windows, web or team version.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | B | iPhone is $9.99, iPad $19.99 and Mac $49.99, each bought once and each sold separately. Phone and Mac together is about a year and a half of a typical to-do subscription, and the Mac licence only carries 18 months of updates before a renewal, at 20% off. |
| Free plan and trial | C | Only Android has a free version, and it never expires. But sync, backups, alert notifications and Markdown notes there run as a 14-day trial and then need a one-time unlock, so the free app forgets your tasks on the other device. Mac gets a 14-day trial; iPhone and iPad are paid up front. |
| Features | B | A task grows into a checklist, then a project with sub-tasks. Type "call mum friday 6pm" and the date fills itself in. Saved searches become Smart Lists, alarms can nag until you deal with them, and the Mac app takes scripts and an MCP server. It's a personal app, with no team side. |
| Ease of use | C | No store rating on record. There's no 2Do account, so before anything syncs you pick and wire up a service yourself, Dropbox, iCloud or a CalDAV server. The app also takes learning: Smart Lists, tag groups and Focus all want setting up. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android, syncing through Dropbox, iCloud, Fastmail, Fruux or any CalDAV server, with an MCP server, AppleScript and Shortcuts on the Mac. No Windows and no web version, which is what keeps it off the top mark. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who 2Do is for
- Fits if you'd rather pay once than subscribe, and pick where your tasks sync
- Works for people who run GTD with an inbox, tags and saved searches on Apple devices or Android
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you need Windows or a browser version, because neither exists
- Pricey if you want it on Mac, iPhone and iPad, since that's $79.97 across three separate purchases
- Watch out: the Mac license covers 18 months of updates, then newer versions need a renewal at 20% off
- Tight if you stay on free Android, as sync, backups, alerts and Markdown notes stop after a 14-day trial
- Not for you if you want a team workspace, as 2Do is a personal task manager with no account of its own
Good to know
Good for
- People who want a one-time purchase instead of a subscription
- Users who prefer to sync through Dropbox, iCloud or their own CalDAV server
- GTD-style setups built on an inbox, tags and saved searches
Worth knowing
- The Mac, iPhone and iPad apps are separate purchases at $49.99, $9.99 and $19.99.
- The Mac license covers 18 months of updates; newer versions then require a renewal, while the last covered version keeps working.
- Apps are listed for macOS, iPhone, iPad and Android only; there is no Windows or web version.
- On Android, sync, backups, alert notifications and Markdown notes need a one-time in-app purchase after a 14-day trial.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of 2Do you could make: tasks, natural-language input, Markdown and calendar. What surrounds it you could not. The 5 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
It costs $9.99, paid once.
What you could make
- Tasks, natural-language input, Markdown and calendar: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- Apps for macOS, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
- It plugs into other products, Dropbox, iCloud and Apple Reminders among them.
- Hooks into the device itself: Shortcuts.
- Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. 2Do’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
