Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.2

GPA, above 1 of the 10 other shipping software we grade

AfterShip Tracking is mainly a tool for what happens after a label is printed, not for buying labels: it follows parcels across more than 1,100 carriers, puts a branded tracking page on your store and sends automatic email and text updates. It also shows delivery date estimates and reports on late or stuck shipments, and plans are priced by shipments tracked each month.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about AfterShip, taken from its own pages and our grades.

It installs from the Shopify App Store and pulls in shipments from your store, a CSV file or the API, then you style the tracking page.

The report card

Best for branded tracking pages and delivery emails

AfterShip doesn't buy labels: it follows parcels across 1,100+ carriers and keeps your customers posted with a branded tracking page and emails or texts. So we graded it against the label tools it's listed beside, most of which send tracking emails too. It does that one job thoroughly, but the API and a page on your own domain need Premium at $70.

ToolGPA report cardAfterShipGraded Oct 18, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCGraded against its listed rivals, on Shopify prices. Essentials is $108 a year for 100 shipments a month, and the other 100 of a 200-parcel month cost $0.08 each, $8 a month more. That's mid-pack against tools that mostly print the labels as well.
Free plan and trialCFree tracks 50 shipments a month with a dashboard and carrier delivery dates, but no branded page and no customer emails, which are the reasons to buy it. Essentials has a 7-day trial and costs $1 for the first month.
FeaturesCIt does tracking fully: 1,100+ carriers, a branded page, email and text updates, delivery estimates and reports on late parcels. That's a smaller job than its listed rivals do, since they also buy the labels. The API and your own domain need Premium.
Ease of useCNo store rating on record. It installs from the Shopify App Store and pulls in shipments from your store, a CSV file or the API, then you style the tracking page. Ordinary setup.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb only, with Shopify, Klaviyo, Gorgias, Zendesk, Attentive, ShipStation, Loox and Amazon Seller Central. The API and webhooks start at Premium, and there's no phone or desktop app listed.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.2

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who AfterShip is for

  • Great if your inbox fills up with "where is my order?" messages
  • Handy when you already buy labels elsewhere and want one tracking page across carriers
  • Good for Shopify brands that want tracking emails and a tracking page in their own style

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you need to buy labels, as it only tracks parcels
  • Tight if you stay free, since Free sends no customer emails and stops at 50 shipments
  • Pricey if you need the API, which starts on Premium at $70 a month

Good to know

Good for

  • Shopify stores that get many "where is my order?" messages
  • Brands that want a tracking page and delivery emails in their own style
  • Teams already buying labels elsewhere that need tracking across carriers

Worth knowing

  • It tracks parcels rather than buying labels; AfterShip sells labels and returns as separate products.
  • Plans are billed per shipment tracked, and each shipment over the quota costs $0.08 on Essentials or $0.12 on Premium.
  • The API, webhooks and a tracking page on your own domain need Premium at $70 a month.
  • The Free plan has no branded tracking page or customer emails, so shoppers see only the carrier's own updates.

AfterShip's GPA of 2.2 is higher than 1 of the 10 other shipping software we grade, and level with 2.

It stands best on platforms and integrations (B, above 1 of 10) and worst on free plan and trial (C, above 0).

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

The plain part of AfterShip you could make: reports. What surrounds it you could not. The 3 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 7 of the 10 other shipping software grade higher. It costs $132 a year.

What you could make

  • Reports: an app builder makes this well.

What you could not

  • Connections that pull numbers from dozens of other services.
  • It plugs into other products, Shopify, Klaviyo and Gorgias among them, and has an API.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.

What this rests on. AfterShip’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
