Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.6

GPA, above 15 of the 26 other AI app builders we grade

Capacity builds full-stack web apps and native mobile apps from a plain-language description, asking a few clarifying questions before it generates the frontend, backend and database. Apps are hosted on Capacity's own servers and can use a custom domain. Paid plans include credits for the built-in agent and also allow unlimited building from Claude or ChatGPT through a connector, which runs on the buyer's own AI subscription.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Capacity, taken from its own pages and our grades.

You can also build from Claude or ChatGPT on your own subscription without spending Capacity's credits.
From our report card of Capacity
  1. 1

Best for building apps from your Claude or ChatGPT chat

Capacity asks a few questions about what you want, then builds the front end, back end and database, hosted on its own servers.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $25 a month

As its pricing page puts it: $25 per month (Starter).

  3. 3

    You can try it first

The homepage says your first app is free; the pricing page lists paid plans only, with no free credit amount.

  4. 4

    It runs on 2 platforms

    Web and macOS.

  5. 5

Questions first, then a full-stack app

Capacity asks about purpose, users and style before it builds, then generates a frontend, a backend and a dedicated database that are wired together.

  6. 6

    Build from Claude or ChatGPT

A connector lets Claude or ChatGPT create and edit Capacity apps from a chat. That work runs on your own AI subscription and uses no Capacity credits on paid plans.

  7. 7

    Vibe and Spec coding modes

Vibe mode builds straight from prompts. Spec mode has the AI follow a project brief, UX specs and design requirements that are written first.

  8. 8

    A 2.6 GPA, above 15 of 26

That is against the other AI app builders we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  9. 9

    Keep it

To replace Capacity you would be making a tool that builds and hosts other apps. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for building apps from your Claude or ChatGPT chat

Capacity asks a few questions about what you want, then builds the front end, back end and database, hosted on its own servers. You can also build from Claude or ChatGPT on your own subscription without spending Capacity's credits. But the pricing page lists no free plan, paid plans start at $25 a month for 100 agent credits, code export waits at $69, and the desktop app is Mac only.

ToolGPA report cardCapacityGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCStarter is $25 a month, right on the line where the dearest quarter of builders here begins, against a $19 middle. It buys 100 agent credits, unlimited projects and custom domains, and building from your own Claude or ChatGPT subscription spends none of them. Servers above 256 MB take 1 to 10 credits a day.
Free plan and trialCThe pricing page lists paid plans only. The homepage says your first app is free, but nowhere says how many credits that covers or whether a card is wanted, so you can't plan around it. Treat it as a look round, not a free plan.
FeaturesBIt covers the whole job: it asks about purpose, users and style, then builds a front end, back end and database wired together, with hosting and custom domains, iPhone and Android apps through Expo on the same backend, and a version history you can restore from. You can also build from your own Claude chat.
Ease of useBNo rating on record, but it asks about purpose, users and style before it builds anything, then hosts the result with nothing to configure. Spec mode, where you write the brief and UX specs first, is the harder road, and the credit meter wants watching.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb plus a desktop app for the Mac, with no Windows or Linux version mentioned and nothing on a phone for building. What it makes runs on the web and as iPhone and Android apps through Expo. It connects to Claude, ChatGPT, Supabase, Stripe, Vercel and GitHub.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.6

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Capacity is for

  • Fits if you already pay for Claude or ChatGPT and want to build apps with it
  • Works for products that need a web app and a phone app on one backend

Who it is not for

  • Not for you if you want a free plan to stay on, as the pricing page lists paid plans only
  • Watch out: the homepage says your first app is free, but no page says how many credits that covers
  • Tight if you lean on the built-in agent: Starter has 100 credits, messages use a variable amount, servers above 256 MB take 1 to 10 a day, and extras are $9 for 10
  • Pricey if you want full codebase export, which the pricing page lists under Growth at $69
  • Skip it if you want a desktop app on Windows or Linux, since only a Mac app is mentioned

Good to know

Good for

  • Non-developers who want an app built and hosted in one place
  • People who already pay for Claude or ChatGPT and want to build with it
  • Products that need a web app and a companion mobile app on one backend

Worth knowing

  • The pricing page lists no free plan; paid plans start at $25 a month, and extra credits are sold from $9 for 10.
  • The built-in agent is metered in credits, and each message uses a variable amount depending on the task.
  • Servers larger than the free 256 MB tier draw 1 to 10 credits a day from the same balance.
  • The desktop app is described as a Mac app; no Windows or Linux version is mentioned.

Part 04 · Standing

Where it stands

Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own

15/26

Other AI app builders it is graded above

Capacity's GPA of 2.6 is higher than 15 of the 26 other AI app builders we grade, and level with 3.

It stands best on features (B, above 15 of 26) and worst on free plan and trial (C, above 1).

Its paid plans start at $25 a month, against a middle price of $19 for the category: 20 of the 26 others that charge start lower.

On features, ease of use and platforms it scores 3.0 out of 4. 4 tools score higher and cost less.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Capacity you would be making a tool that builds and hosts other apps. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It costs $300 a year.

What you could not

  • A tool that builds and hosts other apps.
  • A builder that other people can use without writing code.
  • An AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it.
  • A real app for macOS. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • It plugs into other products, Claude, ChatGPT and Supabase among them.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Capacity’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
