Who each one suits
Capacity
- Non-developers who want an app built and hosted in one place
- People who already pay for Claude or ChatGPT and want to build with it
- Products that need a web app and a companion mobile app on one backend
Emergent
- Solo founders who want a web app and a matching mobile app from one project
- Non-developers building internal tools, dashboards or CRMs by prompt
- Builders who want the generated code in their own GitHub repository
Worth knowing
Capacity
- The pricing page lists no free plan; paid plans start at $25 a month, and extra credits are sold from $9 for 10.
- The built-in agent is metered in credits, and each message uses a variable amount depending on the task.
- Servers larger than the free 256 MB tier draw 1 to 10 credits a day from the same balance.
- The desktop app is described as a Mac app; no Windows or Linux version is mentioned.
Emergent
- The Free plan has 10 credits a month and cannot deploy apps, connect GitHub or use custom domains.
- Each deployed app uses 50 credits a month, half of the Standard plan's 100-credit allowance.
- Monthly subscription credits do not roll over; top-up credits, at $10 for 50, never expire.
- Mobile apps use a fixed Expo, FastAPI and MongoDB stack; Flutter and native Swift or Kotlin are not supported.
Key features
Capacity
- Questions first, then a full-stack app
- Capacity asks about purpose, users and style before it builds, then generates a frontend, a backend and a dedicated database that are wired together.
- Build from Claude or ChatGPT
- A connector lets Claude or ChatGPT create and edit Capacity apps from a chat. That work runs on your own AI subscription and uses no Capacity credits on paid plans.
- Vibe and Spec coding modes
- Vibe mode builds straight from prompts. Spec mode has the AI follow a project brief, UX specs and design requirements that are written first.
- Hosting and custom domains
- Apps publish to a capacity.studio address on a dedicated server. The 256 MB tier uses no credits, larger servers use 1 to 10 credits a day, and custom domains can be connected.
- Native mobile apps
- A project can include an iOS and Android app built with Expo that shares the web app's backend. Builds run in the cloud and can be submitted to both app stores.
- Version history and code export
- Every change is a version that can be restored. The pricing page lists full codebase export under Growth, while the changelog says ZIP download is on all plans.
Emergent
- Agent-built full-stack apps
- Describe an app in chat and Emergent's agents write the frontend and backend, set up authentication, then test and debug the result.
- Mobile apps with Expo
- A Mobile agent builds iOS and Android apps from one Expo (React Native) codebase with a FastAPI backend and MongoDB. It is available on paid plans only.
- Web and mobile conversion
- A deployed web app can be rebuilt as a mobile app, or the reverse, with both versions sharing the same backend, database and login.
- Deployment and custom domains
- Previews expire after 30 minutes; deploying keeps an app online and costs 50 credits a month per app. Custom domains are available on paid plans.
- GitHub integration
- Paid plans can connect GitHub for version control. Emergent states that you own the generated code and can download, modify or host it elsewhere.
- Custom agents and Pro modes
- Pro adds custom AI agent creation, system prompt editing, a 1M context window and an Ultra thinking mode for complex builds.
