It also monitors published pages and tracks whether AI chat tools mention your brand. Every plan has unlimited users.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Clearscope, taken from its own pages and our grades.

The report card

Best for content teams with lots of writers

Clearscope tells writers which terms and questions an article should cover, grades the draft as they edit, and watches published pages for decay and AI mentions. It works in Google Docs, Word and WordPress, and every plan has unlimited users. But Essentials is $129 a month with no yearly discount, the dearest content editor here.

SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyDGraded against other content editors. Essentials is $129 a month with no yearly discount, against $49 for Surfer, $39 for Frase and $19 for NeuronWriter. Users are unlimited, so a team of five pays about $25.80 a head, but one marketer pays the lot.
Free plan and trialCNo free plan, but there's a 14-day free trial, and the listing doesn't say whether it asks for a card.
FeaturesBTerm and intent guidance with a live grade, AI drafts, query discovery, tracking of your brand in ChatGPT and Gemini, content monitoring with 404 and indexing alerts, and internal links while you write. The whole content job.
Ease of useCNo rating on record. Clearscope includes live onboarding and training, but there are tracked queries, pages and drafts to manage within each month's limits.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb, with add-ons for Google Docs, Microsoft Word and WordPress, and links to Google Analytics and Search Console. No API on record, and no desktop or phone app.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.2

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Part 04 · Standing

Where it stands

Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own

6/21

Other SEO tools it is graded above

Clearscope's GPA of 2.2 is higher than 6 of the 21 other SEO tools we grade, and level with 5.

It stands best on features (B, above 14 of 21) and worst on value for money (D, above 0).

Its paid plans start at $129 a month, against a middle price of $34.45 for the category: 21 of the 21 others that charge start lower.

On features, ease of use and platforms it scores 2.7 out of 4. Nothing scores higher for less, though at least one tool matches that score at a lower price.

Every bar is all 22 SEO tools we grade, cut by the letter each got. Clearscope’s own letter is outlined.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Clearscope you would be making search volumes for millions of keywords, gathered and kept up to date. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 10 of the 21 other SEO tools grade higher. It costs $1,548 a year.

What you could make

  • Long-form writing: an app builder makes this well.

What you could not

  • Search volumes for millions of keywords, gathered and kept up to date.
  • It plugs into other products, Google Docs, Microsoft Word and WordPress among them.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Clearscope’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
