Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.8
GPA, above 25 of the 43 other habit trackers we grade
Coach.me is a habit tracker for iPhone, Android and the web that started in 2012 as the Lift app. Tracking is free: you add habits, check in on the days you complete them, set weekly targets and reminders, and trade encouragement with other people working on the same habit. Paid coaching is layered on top, led by Habit Coaching in a private chat at $25 a week or $87 a month.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Coach.me, taken from its own pages and our grades.
No store rating on record, but there's nothing to set up: add a habit, check in on the days you do it.
- 1
Best for a free tracker with a human coach if you want one
The tracker is plain, a habit done three times a day needs three habits, and nothing connects to it.
- 2
Paid plans start at $87 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $25 per week, or $87 per month, for Habit Coaching.
- 3
There is a free plan
The habit tracker is free with no card required: unlimited habits, check-ins, weekly targets, reminders, streaks, trends and the community Q&A and props.
- 4
It runs on 3 platforms
Web, iOS and Android.
- 5
Daily check-ins and streaks
Add habits to a dashboard and check in on each day you complete one, with an optional note. Check-ins can be back-dated up to seven days from the dashboard, or further back from a habit's calendar.
- 6
Weekly targets and reminders
Set how many times a week a habit should happen, and pick the days and times for push or email reminders on each habit.
- 7
Community Q&A and props
Every habit has a Q&A section and an activity feed of the people working on it. Friends and other members can give props and comment on check-ins, and a habit can be set to private.
- 8
A 2.8 GPA, above 25 of 43
That is against the other habit trackers we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Your call
A habit tracker at its plainest is a list of habits, a tick for each day and a count of the streak.

The report card
Best for a free tracker with a human coach if you want one
Coach.me started in 2012 as Lift, and the tracker is free with no cap on habits: you check in, set weekly targets, and trade props with others on the same habit. The paid layer is a person, not software: chat coaching at $25 a week or $87 a month per coach, billed until you cancel. The tracker is plain, a habit done three times a day needs three habits, and nothing connects to it.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | The tracker costs nothing and caps nothing. The paid layer isn't software but a person: $25 a week or $87 a month for daily chat coaching, many times what its listed alternatives like Habitica and Habitify ask, and each coach bills separately until you cancel. |
| Free plan and trial | A | Free with no card and no cap on record: unlimited habits, daily check-ins, weekly targets, push and email reminders, streaks, trends and the community Q&A and props. The Google Play listing is marked as containing ads. |
| Features | C | Check-ins with a note, weekly targets, reminders, weekly and monthly trends, and a Q&A feed on every habit. The gaps are in the basics, and the listing names them: a habit done several times a day needs a separate habit for each go, and streaks only count consecutive days even with a weekly target set. |
| Ease of use | B | No store rating on record, but there's nothing to set up: add a habit, check in on the days you do it. Coaches also publish step-by-step plans with daily instructions, so you can follow one rather than invent your own. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | iPhone, Android and the web, and the coaching chat works on all three. But the iOS app is listed as iPhone-only, the Play listing is marked as containing ads, and there's no integration or API on record at all. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Coach.me is for
- Fits if you want a free tracker with no cap on the number of habits
- Works for people willing to pay for daily one-on-one chat accountability from a human coach
Who it is not for
- Pricey if you add coaching, at $25 a week or $87 a month for each coach, billed until you cancel
- Skip it if you log a habit several times a day, as each go needs its own habit, and streaks ignore weekly targets
- Not for you if you want your numbers pulled in from other apps, since no integrations or API are listed
- Watch out: the iOS app is listed as iPhone-only, and the Google Play listing is marked as containing ads
- Watch out: chat coaching excludes therapy, medical advice and calls; phone consultations cost extra, per coach
Good to know
Good for
- People who want a free tracker with no cap on the number of habits
- Anyone motivated by encouragement from others working on the same habit
- Those willing to pay for daily one-on-one accountability from a human coach
Worth knowing
- Coaching is a separate recurring charge that bills weekly or monthly until canceled, and each coach you hire is priced separately.
- A habit done several times a day needs a separate habit for each instance, and streaks count only consecutive days even when a weekly target is set.
- The App Store lists the iOS app as iPhone-only, and the Google Play listing is marked as containing ads.
- Chat coaching does not include therapy, medical advice, or phone or in-person sessions; phone consultations are sold separately.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Your call
A habit tracker at its plainest is a list of habits, a tick for each day and a count of the streak.
You could make the core of Coach.me for yourself: habit tracking and goals. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call. It costs $1,044 a year.
What you could make
- Habit tracking and goals: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- People on the other end: coaches. No app builder makes those.
What this rests on. Coach.me’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
