How we grade them

3.2GPACoach.meVery good3.6GPAHabiticaExcellent
Value for money
BThe tracker costs nothing. What's sold is a person: Habit Coaching is daily one-on-one chat for $25 a week or $87 a month. That's far more than any habit app, but it isn't the same thing either. It bills until you cancel, and each coach you hire is priced separately.
BThe subscription is $4.99 a month, or $47.99 for 12 months, which is ordinary money for a habit app. But it buys in-game perks like a monthly gear set, not extra task features. A Group Plan with a shared task board is $9 a month plus $3 for each additional member.
Free plan and trial
AThe habit tracker is free with no card required: unlimited habits, check-ins, weekly targets, reminders, streaks, trends and the community Q&A and props. There's no cap to bump into, so you could stay here for good.
AHabits, Dailies, To Do's, rewards, avatars, Parties and Quests are all free, and they sync across devices. Habitica's own App Store listing says the app can be fully enjoyed for free. Most people could stay here for good.
Features
BCheck-ins with notes, weekly targets, push or email reminders, weekly and monthly trends, and a Q&A and activity feed on every habit. But a habit done several times a day needs a separate habit for each instance, and streaks only count consecutive days even with a weekly target.
AThree kinds of task: Habits you log as they happen, good or bad, Dailies on a daily, weekly or monthly schedule, and one-off To Do's. Around them sits a full RPG with gold, gear, pets, Parties and Quests. Reminders and widgets are in the phone apps.
Ease of use
BWe have no App Store rating on record for it, so a B is as high as we go. The tracker is a simple check-in: add a habit, then check in on the days you do it. Coaches also publish step-by-step plans with daily instructions.
B4.3 from about 3,500 App Store ratings, a B on our ladder. There's a game to learn on top of the list, with gold, health points, gear and Quests, so it asks more of you than a plain tracker.
Platforms and integrations
BiPhone, Android and the web, and coaching chats work on all three. The App Store lists the iOS app as iPhone-only, and the Google Play listing is marked as containing ads. It doesn't connect to any other app.
AA website plus iPhone, iPad and Android apps, all synced. It's open source on GitHub, with a public API if you like to tinker. No desktop apps are listed, so on a computer it's the browser.

Key features

Coach.me

Daily check-ins and streaks
Add habits to a dashboard and check in on each day you complete one, with an optional note. Check-ins can be back-dated up to seven days from the dashboard, or further back from a habit's calendar.
Weekly targets and reminders
Set how many times a week a habit should happen, and pick the days and times for push or email reminders on each habit.
Community Q&A and props
Every habit has a Q&A section and an activity feed of the people working on it. Friends and other members can give props and comment on check-ins, and a habit can be set to private.
Trends and milestones
Weekly and monthly trends show progress on each habit, and reaching a milestone is marked with a high-five.
Habit coaching by chat
Hire a coach for asynchronous coaching in a private chat inside the app on iOS, Android or the web, with check-ins nearly every day on a schedule you agree together.
Step-by-step plans
Coaches publish plans with daily instructions for goals such as meditation or exercise, for people who want more guidance than a checklist.

Habitica

Habits, Dailies and To Do's
Habits are positive or negative actions logged as they happen, Dailies repeat on a daily, weekly or monthly schedule, and To Do's are one-off tasks.
RPG rewards
Finished tasks earn gold, experience and items for a customizable avatar, and missed ones cost health points. Rewards to spend gold on can be customized.
Parties and Quests
Friends team up in a Party for accountability and take on Quests together, which award Pets and Equipment.
Group Plans
A paid Group Plan lets members work from one task board and lets tasks be assigned to any number of members.
Reminders, widgets and sync
The mobile apps include reminders and widgets, and progress syncs across devices.
Open source
The code is published on GitHub and the project says it will stay open source. Public pull requests have been paused since August 4, 2026.
