Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
3.2
GPA, above 11 of the 12 other shift scheduling apps we grade
Connecteam is an employee management app for deskless teams, sold as three hubs: Operations (time clock, scheduling, forms and tasks), Communications (chat, updates and a knowledge base) and HR & Skills (time off, training and documents). Each hub has a flat monthly price for the first 30 users, and businesses with up to 10 users can use everything free.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Connecteam, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Staff mostly live in the phone app, clocking in and checking shifts.
- 1
Best for deskless teams that want shifts, chat and forms
The catch is that chat and HR are separate hubs, each with its own price.
- 2
Paid plans start at $29 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $29 per month for up to 30 users, billed annually (Operations Basic).
- 3
There is a free plan
Small Business plan, free for up to 10 users, with all three hubs and nearly every feature, though payroll integration is left out. Teams of up to 30 can stay on a free Limited plan with the basics of each hub.
- 4
It runs on 3 platforms
Web, iOS and Android.
- 5
GPS, NFC and kiosk clock-ins
Staff clock in from their phones with a GPS stamp, by tapping an NFC tag, or at a shared tablet kiosk. Geofences and on-the-clock location tracking come on higher plans.
- 6
Scheduling with open shifts
Shifts repeat daily, weekly or monthly, open shifts can be claimed with approval, and reminders go out before work starts. AI auto-scheduling weighs availability, roles and labor rules.
- 7
Timesheets to payroll
Clock-ins build timesheets that export to payroll services including Gusto, QuickBooks, Xero, Paychex and ADP, with pay periods and pay rates per person.
- 8
A 3.2 GPA, above 11 of 12
That is against the other shift scheduling apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
To replace Connecteam you would be making chat that a whole team counts on staying up. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for deskless teams that want shifts, chat and forms
Connecteam is the one to try first if you have 10 people or fewer, because the whole thing is free at that size. Past that, scheduling and the time clock are a flat $29 a month for up to 30 users. The catch is that chat and HR are separate hubs, each with its own price.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | B | Operations Basic is a flat $29 a month for up to 30 users, billed yearly, so 15 staff pay $29. For a team that size that's in the cheapest quarter of this category. Each user past 30 adds $0.80. |
| Free plan and trial | B | Free for up to 10 users with all three hubs and nearly every feature, though payroll links are left out. Teams of up to 30 can stay on a free Limited plan with the basics, and there's a 14-day trial of Expert with no card. |
| Features | B | GPS, NFC and kiosk clock-ins, repeating shifts with open shifts, AI auto-scheduling and timesheets to payroll, plus forms, checklists, chat and training. The whole job, though time off and chat live in hubs you buy separately. |
| Ease of use | A | 4.86 from 60,756 App Store ratings, the best score on record in this category. Staff mostly live in the phone app, clocking in and checking shifts. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, iPhone and Android, with Gusto, QuickBooks, Xero, Paychex, ADP, BambooHR and Zapier, and an API on Expert. No desktop app, so a B. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Connecteam is for
- Great if you have 10 staff or fewer and want everything free
- Handy when cleaning or field crews clock in by GPS from different sites
- Good for teams that want checklists and forms tied to each shift
Who it is not for
- Pricey if you also want chat and HR, since each hub is its own plan from $29 a month
- Tight if you stay free and run payroll, as the free plan has no payroll link
- Skip it if you might want a refund on a yearly plan after the first 30 days
Good to know
Good for
- Businesses with up to 10 staff that want a free all-in-one employee app
- Field service, cleaning and construction crews clocking in by GPS
- Deskless teams that need chat, forms and training beside the schedule
Worth knowing
- Each hub is bought separately: scheduling and time clock sit in the Operations Hub, while chat and HR tools need their own hub plans from $29 a month each.
- The flat price covers the first 30 users; every user after that is charged per month on each hub, for example $4.20 on Operations Expert billed yearly.
- The free Small Business plan has no payroll integration, and the free Limited plan for up to 30 users drops many features.
- Monthly plans are not refunded for prepaid time; annual plans get a prorated refund only if cancelled within the first 30 days.

Part 04 · Standing
Where it stands
Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own
11/12
Other shift scheduling apps it is graded above
Connecteam's GPA of 3.2 is higher than 11 of the 12 other shift scheduling apps we grade, and level with 1.
It stands best on ease of use (A, above 8 of 12) and worst on platforms and integrations (B, above 1).
Its paid plans start at $29 a month, against a middle price of $5.65 for the category: 10 of the 12 others that charge start lower.
On features, ease of use and platforms it scores 3.3 out of 4. Nothing scores higher for less, though at least one tool matches that score at a lower price.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Connecteam you would be making chat that a whole team counts on staying up. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 3.2 is higher than 11 of the 12 other shift scheduling apps we grade. It costs $348 a year.
What you could make
- Forms and time off: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- Chat that a whole team counts on staying up.
- A rota the whole staff sees on their phones, with swaps and alerts.
- Clocking in from a phone, checked against where and when.
- A scheduler that rearranges your day as things move.
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- It plugs into other products, Gusto, QuickBooks and Xero among them, and has an API.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Connecteam’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
