Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 7 of the 35 other journaling apps we grade
Daylio is a mood tracker and micro-diary for iPhone, iPad and Android. A daily entry takes two taps, a mood and the activities you did, and can be extended with notes, photos and voice memos. The app turns entries into charts, correlations and a Year in Pixels view, and adds goals, reminders and a lock. Data stays on the device with optional backups to iCloud or Google Drive; there is no desktop or web version and no real-time sync between devices.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Daylio, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Over time it charts which activities go with which moods, and entries stay on your phone, not on Daylio's servers.

Stats and correlations
Entries feed weekly, monthly and yearly charts, from simple mood lines to correlations between moods and activities. Advanced stats are a Premium feature.
- 7
Year in Pixels
A single chart shows the whole year with one dot for each day. It can be exported as a picture and shared with other people.

The report card
Best for tracking your mood in two taps
Daylio is a mood diary you fill in with two taps: how you feel and what you did. Over time it charts which activities go with which moods, and entries stay on your phone, not on Daylio's servers. But there's no sync, so a second device means backing up and restoring by hand, there's no computer version, and the price list is unclear.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | There's no price to judge. Daylio's site publishes no price list, and the US App Store shows Premium at $4.99, $17.99, $23.99, $35.99 and $59.99 without saying which is a month, a year or forever. A one-time purchase exists too, priced in the app. |
| Free plan and trial | C | The free version never expires and covers the core mood and activity diary, but the caps are real and unstated: how many moods, goals, reminders and important days you get. Advanced stats, automatic backups, PDF export and the iOS PIN lock are Premium, after a 7-day trial. |
| Features | C | It does the mood diary fully: two-tap entries, notes, photos and voice memos, charts, mood and activity correlations, Year in Pixels, goals with achievements and CSV export. But that's a smaller job than journaling, and its own FAQ rules out any real-time sync. |
| Ease of use | A | 4.77 from about 61,900 App Store ratings. An entry is two taps, a mood and what you did, and the moods and activities can be changed to fit your life. |
| Platforms and integrations | C | Phones and tablets only: iPhone, iPad and Android, and Daylio says plainly it isn't building for computers or the web. It backs up to iCloud or Google Drive and reads Apple Health, but there's no real-time sync between devices at all. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Daylio is for
- Fits if you'd rather tap a mood than write a paragraph
- Works for people who want entries kept on the phone, not on Daylio's servers
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want to type entries at a computer, as there's no desktop or web version
- Not for you if you switch between two devices, since that means a manual backup and restore each time
- Tight if you're staying free on iPhone, where the PIN lock and PDF export are Premium
- Tight if you're staying free, as moods, goals, reminders and important days are capped by amounts it doesn't state
- Watch out: the site has no price list, and the App Store shows five Premium prices from $4.99 to $59.99 with no periods
Good to know
Good for
- People who want to log a mood in a couple of taps instead of writing
- Seeing which activities go with better or worse moods over time
- Privacy-minded users who want entries kept on the phone, not a vendor server
Worth knowing
- No desktop or web version: Daylio says the app is not being developed for computers or the web.
- There is no real-time sync; using a second device means a manual backup and restore each time you switch.
- Advanced stats, automatic backups, PDF export and, on iOS, the PIN lock require Premium.
- Daylio's site publishes no price list; Premium prices appear in the app and on app store listings.
Part 02 · Tips
Insider tips
What most people miss: ways to pay less, settings worth changing and the catches
7
Things most people miss, each from its own help pages
The things about Daylio that are easy to miss until they cost you: ways to pay less, settings worth changing and the catches at renewal or when you leave. Each one is from Daylio’s own pages, linked beside it.
Read on Oct 17, 2026. Read from Daylio's help pages (stats, moods, backups, moving between iPhone and Android, a forgotten PIN, purchases and refunds) on 17 October 2026. Not tried out: these tips are what its own pages say.
- 1
Easy to miss
Tap an activity in Stats to see what it does to the next day
Influence on Mood compares days with and without an activity, including the day before and the day after. Something fun on the day can drag the next one down. Watch the confidence label too: Daylio says not to take Low at face value.
daylio.net - 2
Setting
Archive a mood instead of deleting it
Deleting a custom mood swaps it for the default mood of its group in every past entry. Archiving just hides it from new entries and leaves your history alone. You can also fold one mood into another with Replace.
daylio.net - 3
Setting
Switch on backups before you set a PIN
Daylio can't reset a forgotten PIN, since only you have access to your data. The way back is fingerprint unlock, or reinstalling and restoring a Google Drive or iCloud backup. With no backup, its help page says support can't help.
daylio.net - 4
Leaving
Moving between iPhone and Android takes a backup file, not the cloud
Its help says iCloud and Google Drive backups can't cross platforms. Go to More, Backup & Restore, Advanced Options, Export, email yourself the .daylio file and open it in Daylio on the new phone. Update the app on both first.
daylio.net - 5
Pay less
Android says Premium expired? Don't pay again
Daylio's help says this usually means it's reading the wrong Google account, and Lifetime Premium doesn't expire. Find the account that bought it under Payments & subscriptions in Google Play, then use Restore purchases on the Premium screen.
daylio.net - 6
Renewal
Uninstalling Daylio doesn't cancel a Google Play subscription
Its help page says so plainly, so cancel it in Google Play under Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. A lifetime purchase works differently: Daylio says it doesn't expire with time.
daylio.net - 7
Leaving
A refund locks the moods and goals past the free limit
Purchases are between you and Apple or Google, so refunds go through them. Daylio lists what you lose: moods and goals over the free limit get locked, along with extra reminders, automatic backups, PDF export, Premium themes and editing note templates.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Your call
A journal at its plainest is dated entries of text and photos.
You could make the core of Daylio for yourself: mood tracking, daily notes, habit tracking, goals and templates. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call.
What you could make
- Mood tracking, daily notes, habit tracking, goals and templates: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
What this rests on. Daylio’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
