The report card
Best for hiring and paying people in other countries
Deel is for paying people in other countries: employ them through Deel where you have no company, run payroll where you do, or pay contractors in 120+ currencies. It's month to month. But employer of record is $599 a person a month, so a small team abroad adds up fast.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Graded against the other employer-of-record services, since EOR is a different kind of thing: $599 a person a month, $2,995 for five, the usual rate with Remote and Justworks. Its US payroll is $29 a person, $145 for five, dearer than most US tools. |
| Free plan and trial | F | No free plan or trial: Deel offers a demo instead. Pricing is month to month with no long-term contract, which helps, but you pay from the start. |
| Features | B | Employer of record and payroll in 130+ countries, US payroll in all 50 states, contractor payments in 120+ currencies, contractor of record and a US PEO. The whole job of paying people wherever they are. |
| Ease of use | A | 4.84 from about 3,200 App Store ratings. US payroll is yours to run yourself, or a Deel payroll manager can run it on the managed option. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, iPhone and Android, with QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, BambooHR, Greenhouse, Ashby, Slack and Google Workspace. No desktop app. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

- Skip it if you want to try before committing, as there's a demo but no trial
- Not for you if you want a firm PEO price, as the pricing page shows $125 on one tab and $110 to $147 on others

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Deel you would be making payroll taxes worked out and filed with the government for you. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
It costs $348 a year.
What you could make
- Expense tracking: an app builder makes this well.
What you could not
- Payroll taxes worked out and filed with the government for you.
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
- It plugs into other products, QuickBooks, Xero and NetSuite among them.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Deel’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
