Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.2
GPA, above 5 of the 74 other calendar and scheduling apps we grade
Doodle is a web-based scheduling tool built around group polls, where invitees vote on proposed meeting times. It also offers booking pages, 1:1 invitations and sign-up sheets for events. The Free plan covers one poll, one booking page and one 1:1 with ads; paid plans lift those limits, remove ads and add video conferencing links, team administration and Stripe payments.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Doodle, taken from its own pages and our grades.
- 1
Best for polling a group for a meeting time
Doodle is the group poll most people have been sent: here are five possible times, tick the ones you can do, plus booking pages and sign-up sheets.
- 2
Paid plans start at $11 a month for each person
As its pricing page puts it: $11 per seat / month, billed annually ($15 billed monthly).
- 3
There is a free plan
One Group Poll, one Booking Page, one 1:1 and basic Sign-up Sheets, with ads. No card needed.
- 4
It runs on Web
Web.
- 5
Group Polls
Propose several times and let invitees vote. People inside or outside your organization can take part without shared calendar access, and each sees the options in their own time zone.
- 6
Booking Pages
Set the hours for each page, limit bookings per day, add buffer times and share the link. People who book receive reminders. Free allows one page; paid plans allow unlimited.
- 7
1:1 invitations
Offer one person a list of times to pick from, without them needing a Doodle account. A slot is withdrawn automatically if your connected calendar fills up first.
- 8
A 2.2 GPA, above 5 of 74
That is against the other calendar and scheduling apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

The report card
Best for polling a group for a meeting time
Doodle is the group poll most people have been sent: here are five possible times, tick the ones you can do, plus booking pages and sign-up sheets. The free plan is one poll, one booking page and one 1:1, with ads for you and the people you invite, and the phone apps have been withdrawn. Pro is $11 a seat billed annually, and payments and branding need Team, at $16 a seat with 2 seats minimum.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | D | Pro is $11 a seat a month billed annually, $15 monthly, when the middle of this category is $6 and the dear quarter starts at $10. Branding and Stripe payments are Team at $16 a seat, and Team needs at least 2 seats. |
| Free plan and trial | C | Free with no card, but it's one Group Poll, one Booking Page and one 1:1, plus basic Sign-up Sheets, with ads shown to you and to everyone you invite. Fine for the odd poll, hopeless for anything regular. |
| Features | C | Getting a group to agree a time: polls where each person sees their own zone, booking pages with buffers and daily limits, 1:1 invites that pull a slot when your calendar fills, sign-up sheets with caps. It's a smaller job than a calendar, and there's nothing here for running your own week. |
| Ease of use | B | No rating on record, as there's no app to rate any more, but there's nothing to set up: propose some times, send the link, people vote without signing up for anything. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, with connections to Google Calendar, iCloud, Zoom, Meet, Teams, Webex, Stripe and Zapier. Doodle withdrew its iOS and Android apps, though, so on a phone it's the browser. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Doodle is for
- Fits if you need a time that works for people who don't share a calendar system
- Works for workshops or webinars that need sign-up sheets with a cap per session
Who it is not for
- Tight if you're staying free: one poll, one booking page and one 1:1, with ads shown to everyone you invite
- Skip it if you want a phone app, because the iOS and Android apps were withdrawn
- Pricey if you're solo and want to take payments, as Stripe needs Team at $16 a seat for 2 or more
- Watch out: Zoom, Teams and Webex links, deadlines and reminders all need Pro at $11 a seat billed annually
- Skip it if you need SSO on a small team: it's Enterprise only, from $15k a year
Good to know
Good for
- Finding a meeting time across people who do not share a calendar system
- Event organizers who need sign-up sheets with capped sessions
- Occasional schedulers who can work within one free poll and booking page
Worth knowing
- The Free plan is limited to one Group Poll, one Booking Page and one 1:1, and shows ads to organizers and participants.
- Doodle no longer offers a standalone mobile app; the iOS and Android apps were withdrawn from the app stores and it now runs in desktop and mobile browsers.
- Custom branding, Stripe payments and the admin console start on Team, which requires at least 2 seats.
- Single sign-on is limited to Enterprise, which starts at $15k billed annually.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of Doodle you could make: reports. What surrounds it you could not. The 5 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 57 of the 74 other calendar and scheduling apps grade higher. It costs $132 a year.
What you could make
- Reports: an app builder makes this well.
What you could not
- Booking pages that read and write other people's calendars and send the emails.
- It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
- It plugs into other products, Google Calendar, iCloud Calendar and Google Meet among them.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: roles and permissions.
What this rests on. Doodle’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
