Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.6
GPA, above 6 of the 11 other email sending services we grade
Elastic Email sends app and website email through an HTTP API or SMTP relay, with a template designer, suppression handling, address verification and inbound email processing. Its Email API plans are priced by emails a month, starting at 50,000, and it sells separate Email Marketing plans priced by contacts. A free plan sends 3,000 emails a month, up to 100 a day.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Elastic Email, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Judged on how fast a developer sends a first email: libraries for most languages and an SMTP relay, once your domain is verified.

The report card
Best for cheap sending at 50,000 emails and up
Elastic Email is one of the cheapest ways here to send 50,000 emails: $19 a month on Starter, with the API, SMTP relay, a template designer and address verification. The catch is what Starter leaves out: webhooks and inbound email need Pro at $49, and logs only last 3 days.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | B | Graded on 50,000 emails a month: Starter is $19 for exactly that, in the cheaper quarter of this category at that volume. But webhooks, which tell your app about bounces and complaints, and inbound email need Pro at $49. |
| Free plan and trial | C | Free for good, no card: 3,000 emails a month, capped at 100 a day, with the API, SMTP, designer and 3 days of logs. Fine for testing, but a busy day on a live app will hit the cap. |
| Features | B | API and SMTP with libraries in seven languages, drag-and-drop and AI template design, suppressions, verification, inbound email, webhooks, private IPs and reseller tools. It covers the whole job across its plans, though the developer bits sit on Pro. |
| Ease of use | C | Judged on how fast a developer sends a first email: libraries for most languages and an SMTP relay, once your domain is verified. No rating on record. With 3 days of logs on Free and Starter, chasing a failed email has to be quick. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, with an API and SMTP, plus Zapier, WordPress, Cloudways, Lovable, Bolt, v0 and Replit. No desktop or phone app, so B is the top. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Elastic Email is for
- Great if you send 50,000 emails a month and want to pay as little as possible
- Handy when you resell email to clients under your own brand, which Pro allows
- Good for apps built in Lovable, Bolt, v0 or Replit
Who it is not for
- Skip it if your app needs bounce webhooks on the cheap plan, as they start with Pro
- Tight if you need more than 3 days of logs, which is all Free and Starter keep
- Not for you if you want newsletters on the same account, as Email Marketing is separate
Good to know
Good for
- Price-conscious senders of 50,000 emails a month or more
- Agencies reselling email under their own brand
- Developers who want a free tier for testing
Worth knowing
- The free plan is limited to 100 emails a day, and email logs are kept for 3 days on Free and Starter.
- Inbound email processing, webhooks and subaccounts need Pro, which costs $49 a month at 50,000 emails.
- Email Marketing is a separate product with its own account, priced by contacts: $29 a month for 2,500 on Starter, free up to 1,000.
- A private IP is an add-on at $40 or $50 a month, depending on the plan.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Elastic Email you would be making mail servers with a good name among inbox providers. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
It costs $228 a year.
What you could not
- Mail servers with a good name among inbox providers.
- Newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox.
- Checking that an address exists without writing to it.
- It plugs into other products, Zapier, WordPress and Cloudways among them, and has an API.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Elastic Email’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
