Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.6

GPA, above 2 of the 17 other password managers we grade

Enpass is a password and passkey manager that keeps encrypted vaults in the user's own cloud storage, such as iCloud, Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox, or entirely offline, instead of on the vendor's servers. It has native apps for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android plus browser extensions, and includes an authenticator, a security audit and breach alerts. The free plan covers 25 items, and a business edition stores vaults in an organization's Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Enpass, taken from its own pages and our grades.

Getting started takes work too, because you connect your own cloud account or arrange Wi-Fi sync before anything syncs.
From our grade for ease of use
  1. 1

Best for keeping your password vault in your own cloud

Enpass keeps your encrypted vault in your own iCloud, Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox, or offline, with apps on every desktop and phone and Premium at $23.99 a year.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $2 a month when paid by the year

As its pricing page puts it: $23.99 per year (Premium, US App Store in-app price).

  3. 3

    There is a free plan

Free for up to 25 items, including syncing across all platforms. New free users on desktop are limited to 25 active items and one vault.

  4. 4

    It runs on 5 platforms

macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android, with a browser extension too.

  5. 5

    Vaults in your own cloud

Encrypted vaults sync through your own iCloud, Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Box, Nextcloud or WebDAV account, or stay offline and sync over Wi-Fi. Enpass says it never holds vault data.

  6. 6

    Autofill and password generator

Fills passwords, passkeys, authentication codes, credit cards and web forms, saves new and changed credentials, and generates random or pronounceable passwords.

  7. 7

    Passkeys and built-in authenticator

Creates, stores and syncs passkeys inside the vault and generates TOTP codes, so a separate authenticator app is not needed.

  8. 8

    A 2.6 GPA, above 2 of 17

That is against the other password managers we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  9. 9

    Keep it

To replace Enpass you would be making a password vault, the last thing anyone should make for themselves. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for keeping your password vault in your own cloud

Enpass keeps your encrypted vault in your own iCloud, Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox, or offline, with apps on every desktop and phone and Premium at $23.99 a year. The free plan stops at 25 items, and sync is yours to set up because Enpass hosts nothing. Its App Store rating is 4.2 against about 4.7 for most rivals, and free users get no email support.

ToolGPA report cardEnpassGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyBPremium is $23.99 a year on the US App Store, which is $2 a month, inside the lowest-priced quarter of this category where plans start at $2.49 and the middle is $2.99. Three years for one $47.99 payment works out at $16 a year; Lifetime is $99.99.
Free plan and trialCFree covers 25 items in one vault, syncing across all platforms, and 25 is a wall you hit in an afternoon. Go past it and the extra items stay visible but can't be edited, copied or autofilled.
FeaturesCThe vault covers autofill for passwords, passkeys, cards and forms, a built-in authenticator, a security score with breach alerts, separate vaults on Premium, custom templates and attachments. The gap its own help pages name is sync. Enpass hosts nothing, so every device is yours to connect.
Ease of useC4.2 from about 1,300 App Store ratings, well below the 4.7s most rivals here manage. Getting started takes work too, because you connect your own cloud account or arrange Wi-Fi sync before anything syncs.
Platforms and integrationsAMac, Windows, Linux, iPhone, Android and browser extensions, which is everything. Vaults ride on iCloud, Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Box, Nextcloud or WebDAV, and businesses can keep theirs in Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.6

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Enpass is for

  • Fits if you want your vault in a cloud account you already own, not on a vendor's servers
  • Works for Linux users who want a desktop app next to the phone ones

Who it is not for

  • Tight if you're staying free, because 25 items fills up fast and anything past it can't be edited or autofilled
  • Not for you if you want sync to work out of the box, as you supply the cloud account yourself
  • Skip it if you want email support without paying, since free users get the documentation and the forums
  • Watch out: prices here are US App Store ones; the website sells plans too, at prices that may differ
  • Pricey if you go lifetime, at $99.99 against $47.99 for three years

Good to know

Good for

  • People who want their vault in their own cloud account, not on a vendor's servers
  • Buyers who prefer a one-time purchase to a yearly subscription
  • Linux users who want a native desktop app alongside the mobile apps

Worth knowing

  • The Free plan stops at 25 active items; further items stay visible but cannot be edited, copied or used for autofill.
  • Prices here are the US App Store's in-app prices. Enpass also sells plans, including Business, on its website, where prices may differ.
  • Syncing relies on a cloud account you supply or on Wi-Fi sync you set up yourself, because Enpass does not host vaults.
  • Email support is listed for paid users; free users rely on the documentation and the user forums.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Enpass you would be making a password vault, the last thing anyone should make for themselves. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 14 of the 17 other password managers grade higher. It costs $23.99 a year.

What you could not

  • A password vault, the last thing anyone should make for themselves.
  • Passkeys, which rest on security you cannot improvise.
  • Apps for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
  • It plugs into other products, iCloud, Google Drive and OneDrive among them.
  • What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: single sign-on, SCIM, audit logs and roles and permissions.

What this rests on. Enpass’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
