3.0
GPA, above 14 of the 15 other salon, spa and studio booking apps we grade
Fresha is booking and point-of-sale software for salons, barbers, spas, medspas and other beauty and wellness businesses. It runs the calendar, client records, payments, retail stock, memberships and team pay, and lists businesses on its own consumer marketplace and booking app. The subscription is charged per bookable team member, and new clients who arrive through the marketplace carry a one-time commission.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Fresha, taken from its own pages and our grades.
- 1

The report card
Best for low-cost booking for salons, barbers and spas
Fresha runs a salon's calendar, client records, point of sale, memberships and team pay, and lists you on its own booking marketplace, from $19.95 a month for one bookable person. The low subscription comes with fees around it: a one-time 20% commission on each new marketplace client, card fees from 2.29% + $0.20, and texts, loyalty and review prompts all charged on top.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | B | Independent is $19.95 a month for one bookable person, and Team $14.95 a member, so five people pay $74.75. That's inside the cheaper quarter of this category ($29.99 or less), but each new marketplace client costs a one-time 20% commission, at least $6. |
| Free plan and trial | C | No free plan, only a 7-day free trial that needs no credit card. A week is short to move a client list and a team across. |
| Features | B | Calendar and online booking with waitlists, group bookings and resources, deposits and no-show fees, retail stock, memberships, packages, shifts, timesheets, commissions and pay runs. That's the whole booking job, with loyalty and review prompts as add-ons. |
| Ease of use | A | Fresha rates 4.8 on the US App Store from 3,923 ratings, which puts it at A on our ease ladder. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, iPhone and Android, with booking from Facebook, Instagram and the Fresha app, plus Klarna, Google Analytics and Meta Pixel. No API on record and no desktop app. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

- Fits if you're a solo stylist or barber who wants a booking calendar for $19.95 a month

- Watch out: card fees are 2.79% + $0.20 online, 2.29% + $0.20 in person and 5.99% + $0.30 with Klarna, and terminals start at $139
- Tight if you text a lot: reminder texts past the free allowance are $0.02 each and marketing texts $0.08
- Pricey if you want loyalty ($59.95), Google review prompts ($14.95) or fuller reports ($9.95 a member), each a monthly add-on

Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own
14/15
Other salon, spa and studio booking apps it is graded above
Fresha's GPA of 3.0 is higher than 14 of the 15 other salon, spa and studio booking apps we grade.
It stands best on ease of use (A, above 14 of 15) and worst on free plan and trial (C, above 4).

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Fresha you would be making newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 3.0 is higher than 14 of the 15 other salon, spa and studio booking apps we grade. It costs $239.40 a year.
What you could make
- Appointment booking, inventory and review collection: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- Newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox.
- A rota the whole staff sees on their phones, with swaps and alerts.
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
- It plugs into other products, Facebook, Instagram and Klarna among them.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Fresha’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
