Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.8
GPA, above 16 of the 24 other presentation tools we grade
Gamma is an AI tool that generates presentations, documents, websites and social posts from a prompt, pasted text or an imported file. Its agent asks a few questions, proposes a plan and then builds the deck, and later edits are requested in chat. Finished work can be presented in the browser, shared by link, published as a site or exported to PowerPoint, PDF or PNG.
To get you started, here are 8 things to know about Gamma, taken from its own pages and our grades.
You describe what you want, approve a plan and ask for changes in plain words.
- 1
Best for a first-draft deck from a prompt or a file
Gamma is a web and phone app that drafts decks from a prompt or a file: its agent asks what the deck is for, shows a plan, then writes and designs it, and you ask for changes in chat.
- 2
There is a free plan
Free plan with no time limit and no card: 400 AI credits that do not refresh, up to 10 slides per prompt and basic image models. PDF and PowerPoint exports carry a Gamma badge.
- 3
It runs on 3 platforms
Web, iOS and Android.
- 4
Generate, paste or import
Three ways to start: generate a draft from a topic, paste existing text for Gamma to lay out, or import a PowerPoint, Word or PDF file or a URL to be restyled.
- 5
Agent
The agent asks about goal and audience, shows a plan to approve, then researches, writes, designs and adds images. Changes are requested in plain language in the same chat.
- 6
Present mode
Decks are presented full screen or in a tab, with a presenter view for private speaker notes, a spotlight mode that highlights the current block, and a follow link viewers can use to keep pace.
- 7
A 2.8 GPA, above 16 of 24
That is against the other presentation tools we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 8
Keep it
The plain part of Gamma you could make: documents and templates. What surrounds it you could not. The 5 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

The report card
Best for a first-draft deck from a prompt or a file
Gamma is a web and phone app that drafts decks from a prompt or a file: its agent asks what the deck is for, shows a plan, then writes and designs it, and you ask for changes in chat. But the free credits never refill, free exports carry a Gamma badge, most paid prices aren't on record, the phone apps are US and Canada only, and there's no desktop app.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | No price we can stand behind: Gamma shows Plus, Pro and Ultra only on its own pricing page, which wouldn't load for us. The one figure on record is Business at $40 a member a month billed annually, four times the $9.99 middle here. Annual billing is 28% off and Ultra is monthly only. |
| Free plan and trial | C | Free with no time limit and no card, but the caps arrive fast: 400 AI credits that never refresh, 10 slides a prompt, basic image models, and a Gamma badge on PDF and PowerPoint exports. A referral earns 200 more credits. |
| Features | B | The whole job, start to finish: generate from a topic, pasted text or an imported PowerPoint, Word or PDF file, an agent that plans and writes it, a present mode with speaker notes and a follow link, exports with editable tables, and publishing as a website. API keys and analytics start at Pro. |
| Ease of use | A | 4.8 from about 1,100 App Store ratings, one of only a couple of ratings in this category that clear our bar for an A. You describe what you want, approve a plan and ask for changes in plain words. No slide-arranging. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web and phones, with no desktop app at all, which is where this stops short of an A. Connectors: ChatGPT, Claude and Slack on every plan, Zapier, Make and n8n, and a REST API from Pro up. The phone apps are early access, US and Canada only, and edit through the agent alone. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Gamma is for
- Fits if you have notes or an old file and want a first-draft deck out of them
- Works for asking "make slide 4 shorter" rather than dragging boxes around
Who it is not for
- Tight if you're never paying, because the 400 free credits don't come back
- Skip it if you want clean exports for free, as PDF and PowerPoint files carry a Gamma badge
- Not for you if you edit on your phone outside the US and Canada, where the apps aren't offered yet
- Watch out: Plus, Pro and Ultra prices aren't on record, and Business is $40 a member a month billed annually
- Pricey if you need the API, viewer analytics, passwords or custom domains, as all start at Pro
Good to know
Good for
- Turning a topic, notes or an existing file into a first-draft deck
- People who would rather describe changes than arrange slides by hand
- Teams automating deck creation through the API, Zapier, Make or n8n
Worth knowing
- Plus, Pro and Ultra prices are shown only on Gamma's pricing page; its help center gives the Business price, $40 per member per month billed annually.
- Free-plan AI credits do not refresh: accounts start with 400 and earn 200 more per referral. Paid plans get monthly credits, from 1,000 on Plus to 20,000 on Ultra.
- API keys, detailed viewer analytics, password protection and custom domains start at the Pro plan, and Ultra is sold on monthly billing only.
- The mobile apps are in early access, limited to the US and Canada, and edit only through the agent, with no manual editing.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of Gamma you could make: documents and templates. What surrounds it you could not. The 5 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.8 is higher than 16 of the 24 other presentation tools we grade.
What you could make
- Documents and templates: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A slide editor.
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- It plugs into other products, Claude, ChatGPT and Slack among them, and has an API.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Gamma’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.

The prices, plans, platforms and features were read from Gamma’s own pages on Oct 5, 2026, and the grades were given on Oct 10, 2026. Graded from this listing, whose facts were read from Gamma's own help and developer pages on 5 October 2026, and its App Store rating. Gamma's pricing page would not load for us, so most plan prices are not on record. Also tested with a demo account on 2026-07-09.
