Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.4

GPA, above 8 of the 33 other team communication apps we grade

Geekbot is a bot that runs asynchronous standups, polls and surveys inside Slack and Microsoft Teams. It asks each participant a set of questions on a schedule, posts the answers to a channel, and summarizes participation, blockers and team sentiment. Standups are billed per participant and polls per respondent, and teams of up to 10 can use it free.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Geekbot, taken from its own pages and our grades.

  1. 1

Best for async standups in Slack or Microsoft Teams

Polls cost extra per respondent, the API, AI and CSV exports wait for Basic, and with no Slack or Teams there's nothing here for you.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $2.50 a month

As its pricing page puts it: $2.50 per standup participant / month on the annual plan ($3 monthly).

  3. 3

    There is a free plan

Starter plan: free for teams of up to 10 active participants, with unlimited standups, reports, polls and surveys and up to 3 months of reporting history.

  4. 4

    It runs on Web

    Web.

  5. 5

    Asynchronous standups

The bot messages each participant in Slack or Teams with the standup questions, collects the replies and broadcasts every report in a chosen channel.

  6. 6

    Schedules across time zones

Questions arrive in each person's local time, participants can set their own reporting times, and out-of-office periods pause the standup.

  7. 7

    Polls and surveys

Instant polls and recurring surveys go to channels or DMs, with anonymous voting, AI-generated answer options and results shown as charts.

  8. 8

    A 2.4 GPA, above 8 of 33

That is against the other team communication apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  9. 9

    Keep it

The plain part of Geekbot you could make: surveys, reports and templates. What surrounds it you could not. The 2 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

The report card

Best for async standups in Slack or Microsoft Teams

Geekbot is a bot, not a chat app: it messages each person the standup questions in Slack or Microsoft Teams, in their own time zone, then posts the answers to a channel. Teams of up to 10 use it free, and after that it's $2.50 a participant a month on the annual plan. Polls cost extra per respondent, the API, AI and CSV exports wait for Basic, and with no Slack or Teams there's nothing here for you.

ToolGPA report cardGeekbotGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyBStandups are $2.50 per participant a month on the annual plan, $3 monthly, which undercuts the standup bots it lists itself against apart from Dailybot at $2.40. Polls are billed separately at $0.75 a respondent, and API access, Geekbot AI and CSV exports all need Basic.
Free plan and trialCStarter is free but stops at 10 active participants and keeps 3 months of reporting history, so a growing team walks into it. There's a 30-day trial of Basic as well, card-free, if you want to see the AI and the API.
FeaturesCIt covers its own job: standups in each person's local time, out-of-office pauses, polls and surveys with anonymous voting, blocker and sentiment reports, 25-plus templates, an MCP server and a CLI. But that job is a slice of team chat, not the whole thing, and it needs Slack or Teams to run at all.
Ease of useCNo rating on record. Setting it up is real work, if not hard work: connect Slack or Teams, pick from the 25-odd templates, choose participants and set the schedule before the first question goes out.
Platforms and integrationsBThere's no Geekbot app to install: it runs inside Slack or Microsoft Teams, and its own web side is for setup, analytics and billing. Jira, Google Calendar and Asana are listed under Enterprise. API access comes with Basic, along with an MCP server and a CLI.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.4

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Geekbot is for

  • Fits if your team of 10 or fewer already runs standups in Slack or Microsoft Teams
  • Works for managers who want written check-ins posted to one channel instead of a daily meeting

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if your team isn't on Slack or Microsoft Teams, since it only works inside those
  • Tight if you pass 10 active participants or want more than 3 months of reporting history for free
  • Not for you if you want anonymous reporting, the API, Geekbot AI or CSV exports for free, as all sit on Basic
  • Pricey if you poll the whole company often, because polls cost $0.75 a respondent on top of standups
  • Watch out: the Jira, Google Calendar and Asana integrations are listed under Enterprise, which has no published price

Good to know

Good for

  • Remote teams replacing daily standup meetings with written check-ins
  • Teams of up to 10 participants, which can use it free
  • Managers who want blockers and team mood summarized from updates
  • Running quick polls and recurring surveys inside Slack or Teams

Worth knowing

  • Geekbot works inside Slack or Microsoft Teams, so a team needs one of them; its own web dashboard is for setup, analytics and billing.
  • The free Starter plan covers up to 10 active participants and keeps up to 3 months of reporting history.
  • API access, Geekbot AI, anonymous reporting, engagement summaries and CSV exports are listed under the Basic plan.
  • Standups and polls are billed separately: standups per participant, polls and surveys per respondent.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

The plain part of Geekbot you could make: surveys, reports and templates. What surrounds it you could not. The 2 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 14 of the 33 other team communication apps grade higher. It costs $30 a year.

What you could make

  • Surveys, reports and templates: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • It plugs into other products, Slack, Microsoft Teams and Jira among them, and has an API.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.

What this rests on. Geekbot’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
