Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.8
GPA, above 44 of the 74 other calendar and scheduling apps we grade
GroupCal is a shared calendar platform from 24me for iPhone, Android and the web. An owner creates separate calendars for different groups or topics, members join through a link or a phone-number invite, and everyone gets push notifications when events change. Paid plans, which only the calendar's owner needs, add permission controls, extra admins, public calendar channels and website embeds for several calendars.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about GroupCal, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Joining is a tap on a link with no email address wanted, though accounts hang on a phone number you must reuse on every device.
- 1
Best for calendars lots of people join by link
The API is Enterprise only, and accounts hang on a phone number.
- 2
Paid plans start at $10 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $10 per month, billed annually at $120, per calendar owner (Pro).
- 3
There is a free plan
GroupCal Free: unlimited calendars and events, 25 event photo attachments and 1 admin. Permission controls, member colors and sharing of Google, Outlook and iCloud calendars need a paid plan.
- 4
It runs on 3 platforms
Web, iOS and Android.
- 5
Calendars joined by link
Create separate calendars for different groups, topics or resources, each with its own color and photo. Members join from a shared link or an invite sent to their phone number, without an email address.
- 6
Real-time updates and RSVP
Members get push notifications when they are added to a calendar and when events are added or changed. Each event shows who accepted or declined.
- 7
Roles and permissions
Calendars have Owner, Admin and Member roles. Paid plans let the owner choose who can add events or members, and from Team hide event details or limit members to editing their own events.
- 8
A 2.8 GPA, above 44 of 74
That is against the other calendar and scheduling apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

The report card
Best for calendars lots of people join by link
GroupCal lets an owner make a calendar that people join from a link or a phone-number invite, with a push alert whenever anything changes, and members never pay. Free allows 1 admin and no control over who adds events, Pro is $10 a month billed annually, and a second admin or hidden event details means Team at $50. The API is Enterprise only, and accounts hang on a phone number.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Pro is $10 a month billed annually, the dear edge of this category against a $6 middle, and it mostly buys permission controls and member colors. A second admin or hidden event details means Team at $50. Only the owner pays; members don't. |
| Free plan and trial | B | Free with no time limit, unlimited calendars and events, and members never pay. The ceilings are 25 event photos, 1 admin and no control over who adds events. |
| Features | B | The group job, covered: a calendar per group, push alerts on every change, RSVPs, owner, admin and member roles, your Google and Outlook events alongside, and public calendars you can embed with a WordPress plugin or Wix widget. |
| Ease of use | B | 4.67 from about 800 App Store ratings, a shade under the 4.7 an A needs. Joining is a tap on a link with no email address wanted, though accounts hang on a phone number you must reuse on every device. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | iPhone, Android and the web, alongside Google Calendar, Outlook, iCloud, WordPress and Wix. No desktop app, and the REST API with webhooks is Enterprise only. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who GroupCal is for
- Fits if you publish a club, school or community schedule for lots of people to follow
- Works for groups on a mix of iPhone and Android where only the organizer pays
Who it is not for
- Pricey if you need more than one admin, which starts at Team for $50 a month billed annually
- Skip it if you want an API without talking to sales, because the API and webhooks are Enterprise only
- Tight if you're staying free and need to control who can add events, as permissions are paid
- Watch out: sharing your Google, Outlook or iCloud calendars with a group needs Pro, and free caps photos at 25
- Watch out: accounts are tied to a phone number you must reuse on every device, and there's no desktop app
Good to know
Good for
- Clubs, communities and schools that publish a schedule to many people
- Small teams sharing shifts, bookings or meeting-room calendars
- Families and friends on a mix of iPhone and Android phones
- Groups where only the organizer should pay: members use the app free
Worth knowing
- A plan covers the calendars its buyer owns, so prices are per calendar owner, not per member; members and admins of those calendars pay nothing.
- The free plan allows 1 admin and has no permission controls. More admins start at Team ($50 per month, billed annually).
- The REST API, webhooks and white-labeled apps are limited to Enterprise, which has custom pricing.
- Accounts are tied to a phone number: the guide says to sign in with the same number on every device.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of GroupCal you could make: calendar. What surrounds it you could not. The 6 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
It costs $120 a year.
What you could make
- Calendar: an app builder makes this well.
What you could not
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- Several people working in it at the same moment.
- It plugs into other products, Google Calendar, Outlook and iCloud among them.
- Hooks into the device itself: widgets.
- What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: roles and permissions.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. GroupCal’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
