Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.0

GPA, above 1 of the 43 other habit trackers we grade

Habit List is an iPhone habit tracker by Scott Dunlap and Gerard Gualberto that shows only the habits due today. It tracks streaks with color-coded badges, supports schedules by specific days, by a number of days per week or by intervals, and reports weekly and monthly completion rates. No account is required. The first three habits are free, and a Premium upgrade removes the limit.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Habit List, taken from its own pages and our grades.

The app itself asks nothing of you: no account, and the only screen that matters is today's list.
From our grade for ease of use
  1. 1

Best for a short list of only the habits due today

  2. 2

    What it costs

Paid plans start at $4.99 for Upgrade to Premium (US App Store; billing period not shown).

  3. 3

  5. 5

    Streaks with colored badges

Each habit shows its streak and personal best. Green means due today, red means you have fallen behind, yellow marks a streak that just ended and gray marks optional days.

  6. 6

    Today view

The main list shows only the habits due today, in an order you set, and tapping Today shows the day's completion percentage.

  7. 7

    Flexible scheduling

Three schedule types cover specific days such as Monday, Wednesday and Friday, a number of non-specific days per week, and intervals such as every 2 to 3 days.

  8. 8

    A 2.0 GPA, above 1 of 43

That is against the other habit trackers we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  9. 9

    Your call

The report card

Best for a short list of only the habits due today

Habit List shows only the habits due today, handles schedules like any 4 days a week or every 2 to 3 days, and gives three habits free with no account. It's iPhone only, it needs iOS 18.6 or later, nothing on record says it syncs anywhere, the $4.99 upgrade's billing period isn't shown, and its 4.0 on the App Store is lower than most rivals manage.

ToolGPA report cardHabit ListGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyBThe App Store shows one item, Upgrade to Premium at $4.99. If that's the single unlock it looks like, it's a fraction of a year of this category's middle subscription at $39.96. The snag is that the listing doesn't show a billing period, so it won't tell you whether that's once or every month.
Free plan and trialCThree habits free, forever, with no account at all, and the schedules, streaks, reminders and progress views come with them. Three is a wall you meet in the first week, and the passcode lock and dark mode sit behind the upgrade too.
FeaturesCThe basics: only today's habits on screen, color-coded streak badges, three kinds of schedule, reminders you can tick from the notification, weekly and monthly completion bars, skips and JSON export. But neither the site nor the listing mentions sync, so your habits live on one phone.
Ease of useC4.0 on the App Store from about 310 ratings, which is middling for this category and the lowest of the plain trackers we've graded. The app itself asks nothing of you: no account, and the only screen that matters is today's list.
Platforms and integrationsDOne operating system, and really one device: the listing is marked for iPhone only, with no iPad, Mac, Android or web version, nothing it connects to, and no sync mentioned anywhere. It also needs iOS 18.6 or later.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.0

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Habit List is for

  • Fits if you want a short list of only what's due today, on odd schedules like any 4 days a week
  • Works for people who want to track habits on one iPhone without creating an account

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you use anything but an iPhone, as there's no iPad, Mac, Android or web version
  • Tight if you stay free and have more than three habits, and the passcode lock and dark mode are Premium too
  • Not for you if you want your habits on two devices, since neither the site nor the listing mentions sync
  • Watch out: the $4.99 upgrade shows no billing period, so the listing doesn't say if it's a one-time unlock
  • Watch out: it needs iOS 18.6 or later and rates 4.0 from about 310 App Store ratings

Good to know

Good for

  • iPhone users who want a short list of only what is due today
  • Habits on irregular schedules, such as any 4 days a week
  • People who want to track habits without creating an account

Worth knowing

  • The App Store listing is marked only for iPhone; no iPad, Mac, Android or web version is listed.
  • The free version stops at three habits, and the passcode or Touch ID lock and dark mode are part of Premium.
  • The App Store lists Upgrade to Premium at $4.99 without a billing period, so the listing does not say whether it is a one-time unlock.
  • The current version requires iOS 18.6 or later, and neither the site nor the listing mentions sync between devices.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Your call

A habit tracker at its plainest is a list of habits, a tick for each day and a count of the streak.

You could make the core of Habit List for yourself: habit tracking and goals. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call.

What you could make

  • Habit tracking and goals: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • A real app for iOS. Something home-made would be a web page.

What this rests on. Habit List’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
