Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
3.0
GPA, above 37 of the 43 other habit trackers we grade
Habo is a minimalist habit tracker for Android and iPhone, released under the GPL-3.0 license and published by PPDev s.r.o. The core app is free, has no ads, needs no account and works offline. Version 4.0, announced in March 2026, added Habo Sync, a paid add-on for end-to-end encrypted sync and automatic backups across devices, which can also be self-hosted on your own Supabase backend at no charge.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Habo, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Look elsewhere if you need any of those.
- 1
Best for a free, private habit tracker with no account
Habo is a free, open-source habit tracker for phones with no ads and no account, and it works offline.
- 2
Paid plans start at $0.83 a month when paid by the year
As its pricing page puts it: $1.99 per month, or $9.99 per year, for Habo Sync.
- 3
There is a free plan
The whole tracker is free and open source with no ads or account. Only the hosted Habo Sync service for multi-device sync and cloud backups is paid, and it can be self-hosted for free.
- 4
It runs on 2 platforms
iOS and Android.
- 5
Quick check-ins
A day can be logged as a success, a numeric value, missed or skipped, and a skip does not affect the streak. Each check-in can carry a note of up to 400 characters.
- 6
Calendar and statistics
A monthly calendar shows streaks and completions, and statistics chart streaks, trends and completions over time.
- 7
Habo Sync
Data is encrypted on the device with a Master Password before upload, so the server holds only ciphertext. Conflicts between devices are resolved by keeping the latest change.
- 8
A 3.0 GPA, above 37 of 43
That is against the other habit trackers we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Your call
A habit tracker at its plainest is a list of habits, a tick for each day and a count of the streak.

The report card
Best for a free, private habit tracker with no account
Habo is a free, open-source habit tracker for phones with no ads and no account, and it works offline. Syncing devices costs $1.99 a month or $9.99 a year for Habo Sync, or you run a Supabase backend yourself. It's phones only, the App Store build is marked for iPhone alone, there are no timers, health links or watch app, and it's a one-person project. Look elsewhere if you need any of those.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | A | The tracker itself is free and open source, and the only thing sold is the sync service at $9.99 a year, under 60% of this category's cheapest quarter. Run the sync backend on your own Supabase project and that costs nothing too. |
| Free plan and trial | A | Free outright, with no ads, no account and no cap: every completion type, statistics, reminders, categories, a biometric lock and local export and backup. Syncing two devices is the paid part, unless you set up your own server. |
| Features | C | It does plain tracking: a day logged as done, a number, missed or skipped, skips that spare your streak, notes up to 400 characters, a monthly calendar, trend charts, categories and archiving. There are no timers, health-data links or watch app on record. |
| Ease of use | B | No store rating on record, and nothing to set up: no account and no internet needed. Self-hosting sync is the fiddly path, since it needs your own Supabase project. |
| Platforms and integrations | C | Phones only. The vendor lists Android and iOS, the App Store listing is marked for iPhone alone, and there's no web or desktop app anywhere. Apple Shortcuts and your own Supabase project are the only things it talks to. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Habo is for
- Fits if you want a free tracker with no ads and no account, on one phone
- Works for people willing to run their own Supabase backend to get sync for free
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want a web or desktop app, as it's phone only and the App Store build is marked for iPhone alone
- Not for you if you expect free sync between devices without setting up a server yourself
- Too light for people who want timers, health data or a watch app, none of which are on record
- Watch out: Lifetime at $19.99 covers Habo Sync only for as long as it's offered, and future services may cost extra
- Watch out: the developer calls it a one-person project backed by community contributors
Good to know
Good for
- People who want a free, open-source tracker with no ads or account
- Privacy-minded users who want sync the server cannot read
- Self-hosters willing to run their own Supabase backend
Worth knowing
- Phone only: the vendor lists Android and iOS, the App Store listing is marked only for iPhone, and there is no web or desktop app.
- Syncing between devices needs a paid Habo Sync plan or a Supabase backend that you set up and run yourself.
- The terms limit the Lifetime purchase to the Habo Sync feature, for as long as it is offered; future standalone services may cost extra.
- The developer describes Habo as a one-person project supported by community contributors and translators.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Your call
A habit tracker at its plainest is a list of habits, a tick for each day and a count of the streak.
You could make the core of Habo for yourself: habit tracking. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call. At $9.99 a year it costs less than the weekend it would take to replace, which is the argument for keeping it. Habo is open source, so there is a third way: take its code and run it yourself.
What you could make
- Habit tracking: an app builder makes this well.
What you could not
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- End-to-end encryption done properly.
What this rests on. Habo’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
