Who each one suits

HabitKit

  • People who want to see a year of each habit at a glance
  • Users who want no account and their habit data kept on the phone
  • Buyers who would rather pay once than subscribe
  • Tracking up to four habits for free with no time limit

Habo

  • People who want a free, open-source tracker with no ads or account
  • Privacy-minded users who want sync the server cannot read
  • Self-hosters willing to run their own Supabase backend

Worth knowing

HabitKit

  • The free version stops at four active habits; widgets, charts, extra reminders, and export and import need Pro.
  • Nothing syncs between devices: moving to a new phone means exporting a file and importing it, and export and import are Pro features.
  • The US App Store lists several amounts for each Pro period, such as $0.99, $1.99 and $4.99 for one month; the app shows the price that applies.
  • Listed for iPhone and Android only. The help center says there is no Apple Watch app, and no web or desktop version is listed.

Habo

  • Phone only: the vendor lists Android and iOS, the App Store listing is marked only for iPhone, and there is no web or desktop app.
  • Syncing between devices needs a paid Habo Sync plan or a Supabase backend that you set up and run yourself.
  • The terms limit the Lifetime purchase to the Habo Sync feature, for as long as it is offered; future standalone services may cost extra.
  • The developer describes Habo as a one-person project supported by community contributors and translators.

Key features

HabitKit

Tile grid for every habit
Each habit gets a year-long grid with one tile per day and one column per week, and the dashboard offers three views for seeing all habits together.
Yes/No, Count and Measure tracking
A habit can be a daily tick, a whole-number count or a measured amount with a unit and up to three decimal places. Counts and amounts use a daily goal or, for quit habits, a stay-below limit.
Streaks and flexible goals
Streaks follow a daily, weekly or monthly goal, such as 3 times a week or 20 times a month, so planned days off are not misses. There is no streak freeze or skip day.
Home screen widgets
Widgets on iPhone and Android show habit grids and let you log a habit without opening the app. They are part of Pro; without it a widget shows a padlock.
Siri and iOS Shortcuts
Seven iOS Shortcuts actions log amounts and notes, edit past days, read progress or open a habit, and can be run with Siri or from automations.
On-device data and backups
Habit data stays on the phone with no account. The app keeps seven daily backups that are free to restore, and Pro adds export and import of one JSON file.

Habo

Quick check-ins
A day can be logged as a success, a numeric value, missed or skipped, and a skip does not affect the streak. Each check-in can carry a note of up to 400 characters.
Calendar and statistics
A monthly calendar shows streaks and completions, and statistics chart streaks, trends and completions over time.
Habo Sync
Data is encrypted on the device with a Master Password before upload, so the server holds only ciphertext. Conflicts between devices are resolved by keeping the latest change.
Self-hosted sync
The sync backend is open source and runs on your own Supabase project. The app is pointed at it under Settings, and all sync features work without a subscription.
Privacy and data control
The app works without an internet connection or account, can be locked with Face ID, Touch ID or a passcode, and offers export and backup of your data.
Organization and themes
Habits can be grouped into categories, reordered by drag and drop and archived without losing history. Themes include dark, light, OLED and Material You on Android.

HabitKit

Habo

  • Annual discount

Save over 50% with annual billing

The pricing section lists Habo Sync at $1.99 a month or $9.99 a year and labels the annual plan as saving over 50%; twelve months at the monthly rate is $23.88.

  • Lifetime license

    Habo Sync Lifetime for $19.99

The US App Store lists a one-time Habo Sync Lifetime purchase at $19.99, about the price of two years on the annual plan.

  • Other savings

Self-hosting the sync backend is free

Habo Sync can run on your own Supabase backend with every sync feature and no subscription; the vendor says Supabase's free tier is enough.
